Story
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

Not His Best
Reviewed: 12-31-19
In some of King’s best books, you come to truly connect and care for the characters. Not here. Idk why but most of the characters felt cardboard, I had trouble relating to them or caring about them and while it was interesting to see the story unfold I didn’t feel terribly engaged for something that was so long. I don’t think it’s just because it focuses mostly on characters that are children. In his other books written from the viewpoints of kids, they have much more depth. Any other author might get 4 stars but since I know he can do better, solid 3. Narrator gets a 5/5 though. He did so many voices he was like a one-man cast production.

I love Stephen King, but
Reviewed: 09-03-19
I guess this novel just seemed a bit, formulaic? I mean, it’s certainly 1000x better than anything I could ever write, but for Stephen King, I’m not sure I’d say it’s one of my all-time favorites. He does a fantastic job (as always) of bringing these characters to life and during the height of the climax, you won’t be able to stop listening. Now, just about everyone who reads a lot of King knows about his endings- some of which I absolutely love. However, this one I felt fell a more than a little flat, especially after all the drama on the Key came to a close. Also I don’t feel there was anywhere near enough development of the main antagonist (Perse). When he takes the time to really let you know about the nature of his monster (like in IT), the story becomes all the more horrifying and adds an extra layer of interest, for me anyway. I still have many unanswered questions about Perse and her ship. Honestly I’d give it 2.5 out of 5, but closer to a 3 than a 2. Guy who read it did a bang-up job though.

Story
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

I was so disappointed
Reviewed: 09-22-17
I regularly re-listen to and re-read all the other books in this series, except Clariel and this one. After the disappointment of the former, I was really looking foreword to this. I pretty much couldn’t even follow the audiobook because the narrator put me to sleep. So, I finally read the print version and guess what: it’s just a flat story. Where’s the Lirael from the other books? Nick is sorta lame. I don’t want a romance I want an adventure story. 2/5. I don’t even want this anymore.

In this new anthology, Neil Gaiman pierces the veil of reality to reveal the enigmatic, shadowy world that lies beneath. Trigger Warning includes previously published pieces of short fiction--stories, verse, and a very special Doctor Who story that was written for the fiftieth anniversary of the beloved series in 2013--as well as "Black Dog", a new tale that revisits the world of American Gods, exclusive to this collection.

Each story here is a jewel and this book will not leave you disappointed. I think I've re-listened to it 6 times now. There's action, adventure, humor, romance and enough light to balance the darkness perfectly. Neil Gaiman is both an expert story teller and reader.

Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

First off, the guy who reads this deserves some sort of award. I've listened to my fair share of audio books and he is by far one of the best. Really did this story justice. Fantastic book, one I couldn't "put down" if you know what I mean. I won't give away and details of the story, but it's complex and well-written. Stephen King knows how to write 'em.

Reviewed: 10-23-15
I liked it. I found Clariel a hard character to like at first, but after I understood more about her and her life and her story, I liked her quite a lot. Though, I don't really understand why she is considered the "lost Abhorsen" because it seemed Bel was supposed to be the Abhorsen the whole time. Good book though. Worth it.
