Story
Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

Story
If Indiana Jones lived in the X-Files era, he might bear at least a passing resemblance to Nolan Moore - a rogue archaeologist hosting a documentary series derisively dismissed by the "real" experts, but beloved by conspiracy theorists. Nolan sets out to retrace the steps of an explorer from 1909 who claimed to have discovered a mysterious cavern high up in the ancient rock of the Grand Canyon. And, for once, he may have actually found what he seeks. Then the trip takes a nasty turn, and the cave begins turning against them in mysterious ways.

Best series ever written. The author captured many things beautifully to include Joseph Campbell, Frankl Shakespeare and Camus...probably more but this Marine caught those ones when they popped up. I will miss the characters. Just so so awesome.

It was a struggle to get through this book. The dialog use was reminiscent of the way most high school students over do it. To make it worse the narration didn't reflect the tone. In other words it was read as a normal sort of tone when it called for "she whispered" wrapped in fear. Don't the voice actors actually read the book first and then do their thing? if not, it would be a good thing. But lipstick on a pig. The worst out of dozens I have read or listened to in this genre. Buh.

Fresh off his first mission back with the CIA, Court Gentry secures what seems like a cut-and-dried contract job: A group of expats in Paris hires him to kidnap the mistress of Syrian dictator Ahmed Azzam to get intel that could destabilize Azzam's regime. Court delivers Bianca Medina to the rebels, but his job doesn't end there. She soon reveals that she has given birth to a son, the only heir to Azzam's rule - and a potent threat to the Syrian president's powerful wife. What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If the plot was interesting and if the narrator could pull off an Irish, British, Welsh and Scottish accent then MAYBE it would be worth it.
Has The Dead Walk the Earth, Volume 1 turned you off from other books in this genre?
Almost killed my interest in this genre but the Arisen series keeps me captivated.
Would you be willing to try another one of Andrew B. Wehrlen’s performances?
Hell no. It sounds like he is a 33 rpm record being played at 45 rpm and his attempts at anything other than an American accent are a total bust. I mean not even close. And yes, I grew up both in the US and in Ireland so vey used to accents.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Dead Walk the Earth, Volume 1?
The worst scene is while the team are sequestered in quarantine and Bull decided to rub his genitalia on the two way glass FOR TEN MINUTES?! TEN?! So the highly trained operator who passed Selection and a variety of training venues and situations is so stressed out he rubs his junk against a two way mirror like a San Francisco junkie FOR ten minutes while his team sits there kind of like, "Oh that's normal." Tell you what. If that were a team mate of mine, I would never be near him again while he was armed because that indicates a severe mental problem. I think most professionals would stay away from a dude like that.

Greaney did it again!
Reviewed: 02-20-16
Would you listen to Back Blast again? Why?
There is never a lull in the story or boring gaps. Greaney manages to sculpt amazingly realistic characters and plot lines using flowing words to perfection. A truely talented artist, Greaney taps into realism that people in the business he writes about can appreciate.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Gentry is a tragic hero that many in the industry (Spec Ops and/or Intel) can relate to especially after 15 or more years of wars. Gentry comes off as real.
Which scene was your favorite?
Begining to end, Greaney pulls you into the story and it is a great adventure.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
As Gentry pushes through his struggles and retains his compassion regardless of the garbage he has to wade through, the audience can connect and actually find strength and inspiration in it.
Any additional comments?
Greaney is one of the most amazing authors of modern times.

Having been in wars for a couple decades on the pointy tip of the spear, I can say with credibility that the author did an amazing job of capturing the personalities, spirit and essence of every single service component and specific community members. The narrator did a Phenomenal job with the voices. My only criticism would be using the terms and ranks correctly (like "L-C-D-R" versus the correct "Lieutenant Commander") or C-A-S versus "cas", M-b-i-t-r versus "mbitter" (pronounced like I spelled it. It may seem minor but for the amount of effort the author obviously put into the work it is a bit ridiculous to not have a military guy or gal on staff to give the correct pronunciation. It's lazy on the part of the production company and with the author delivering amazing work, they kind of owe it to him as well as the audience,
But otherwise, I loved it and cant wait for the movies. Well done!
