Story
The unimaginable has happened: the world has been plunged into all-out nuclear war. Sailing near the Arctic Circle, the USS Nathan James is relatively unscathed, but the future is grim and Captain Thomas is facing mutiny from the tattered remnants of his crew. With civilization in ruins, he urges those that remain - 152 men and 26 women - to pull together in search of land. Once they reach safety, however, the men and women on board realize that they are the earth's last remaining survivors.

Listened to the 1st third and there was yet to be what I call a story. Also, it is written in the first person and the prose/narration was excessively verbose and haughty like the author was trying to display how clever he was with his sentence construction. Some may like this style of writing but it is not for me.

Story
The Feed is accessible everywhere, by everyone, at any time. It instantaneously links us to all information and global events. Tom and Kate use the Feed, but Tom has resisted its addiction. The Feed's collapse, taking modern society with it, leaves people scavenging to survive. Tom and Kate have managed to protect themselves and their family. But then their six-year-old daughter, Bea, goes missing. Who has taken her? How do you begin to look for someone in a world without technology?

female reader impossible to listen to
Reviewed: 04-29-24
The female narrator on this story has a very strong english accent and talks. Way too fast. So when I try to listen to it at my normal playback speed of 1.4X, she is virtually unintelligible which made the listening process areal pain. I was never actually able to finish the book.
