Disappointed
Reviewed: 06-19-23
I really enjoy Mike Kraus' books but this was just wasn't right for me. Personally I would have someone else narrate, Voices were not believable and very irritating to me. Way too much detail in mundane things and people's reeaction to horrific events are too calm for me to believe. Not sure I would recommend this audible but I think it would be a good read in print.

Gabe and Eric decide to wagon train to Colo Springs so Gabe can accept a job offer with the government in an elite security position guarding transports and supplies for the wealthy. Many people want what they have and are willing to kill to get it. Daughter Sabrina and wife also add to the mix and aren't just meek women.
I enjoy the series and look forward to continuing the journey.

Story
As a prepper, Grayson Rowan was prepared for almost anything...anything other than being totally alone when the sh*t hits the fan. While he sat back and watched the US rattle swords with Korea, play chicken with Russia, and strong-arm China, he felt sure if the lights went out that he and his family would be ready and safe. What he wasn't prepared for was his family not being home if it ever happened. Olivia Rowan is with her sisters, Gabby and Emma, on a girls-only trip to Myrtle Beach. Graysie Rowan, a freshman at university, just wants to go home.

Sisters vacationing in Florida. SHTF and they struggle to get home to their husbands. Olivia is just unlikeable as she has no survival instincts. She thinks everyone is overreacting when she isn't reacting at all. I really don't like her.
Good series even though it started a little slow.

Homer finally finds his family - actually the kids and with the help of an ex cop that was surviving with her family in a cabin. Fights internal demons and real ones in the form of his old batallion group that has taken over. He is almost all alone trying t do the right thing to be able to bring his kids back to the ship to safety.
Not sure how the other characters in the series are doing but this is a great stand alone. Kind of sad coming to the end of this series but if there is a spin off I'm all in.

On Zero Day of the first and last cyberwar in human history, the internet went dark, transport and power grids collapsed and cities began to starve, showing just how vulnerable the world could be to a targeted campaign of online sabotage. This final installment of this prescient epic of civilisation collapse finds the small ragtag band of survivors come together to face a new, but eerily familiar threat - the rise of a fascist militia among the ruins of a failing country.

Good series. Characters entertwined and came together in surprisingly great twist. Ravaged cities but just enough excitement built in.
One of the Main characters
james finds himself on a cross country trek to get back home with girl he just met but has secrets of her own. Chef is also a developed character that is pretty dominate with girlfriend in tow. Unpredictable journey.
Worth the credits.

A little claustrophobic for me. Dark setting somewhere in the future where water is scarce. Starts with main character being chased and shot - winding up in a bar. Bar manages to heal him up and help him save his girlfriend that is being tortured until she says where he is hiding. Unfortunate for her she really doesn't know.
Narration is good.

Story
When a viral apocalypse kills 97 percent of the people on the planet, the survivors' humanity is hanging by a thread. Amid the leftovers of civilization, ex-Army Ranger Jason Larsen is reminded of the meaning of hope, family, and loyalty by a dog and a young boy who are as alone as he is. The survivors he seems to collect become family, and that is very bad news for those who think they run the apocalypse.

I enjoy just about everything Franklin Horton writes but I couldn't get into this one. I think it was the title character. Probably true to life but I wasn't connected with him. He is an ex soldier trying to adjust to non soldier life. Goes on a quest to look for an abducted little girl but I'm not sure where he gets his insights on where to go. He is not very likeable and treats everyone like they are beneath him or at least as smart as he thinks he is.
Narration is great.
