Story
Revolt is an eloquent and provocative challenge to the prevailing wisdom about the rise of nationalism and populism. With a vibrant and informed voice, Nadav Eyal illustrates how modern globalization is not sustainable. He contends that the collapse of the current world order is not so much about the imbalance between technological achievement and social progress or the breakdown of liberal democracy as it is about a passion to upend and destroy power structures that have become hollow, corrupt, or simply unresponsive to urgent needs.

Does not compare to Martin G’s “Revolt of the Public”. I just didn’t find it insightful.

Story
With all the passion, curiosity, and precise yet lyrical prose that have marked his previous books, Alan Lightman here explores the emotional and philosophical questions raised by discoveries in science, focusing most intently on the human condition and the needs of humankind. He looks at the difficult dialogue between science and religion, the conflict between our human desire for permanence and the impermanence of nature, the possibility that our universe is simply an accident, the manner in which modern technology has separated us from direct experience of the world, and our resistance to the view that our bodies and minds can be explained by scientific logic and laws.

Couldn’t figure out what it was about

It wasn’t a complicated book I just couldn’t figure out what the narrative storyline was supposed to be about. My HS English teacher would not approve.

Nice story twist
Reviewed: 04-26-17
This is a pretty good that I read with my 12 year old daughter. It's a nice twist with the best friend's mysterious disappearance wrapped up in a coming of age tale. It mostly held up well though I thought the plot got thin as she "solves the mystery" of her friend's disappearance and sets out to meet her. The narrator does a fantastic job.

Story
As a mysterious fire rages through the hills above a privileged town in Southern California, Lew Archer tracks a missing child who may be the pawn in a marital struggle or the victim of a bizarre kidnapping. What he uncovers amid the ashes is murder - and a trail of motives as combustible as gasoline. The Underground Man is a detective novel of merciless suspense and tragic depth, with an unfaltering insight into the moral ambiguities at the heart of California's version of the American dream.

This had an excellent, full fledged plot. Plenty of clues letting you figure some of it out but complex enough to have you engrossed to the final reveal.
