Story
I order another bourbon, neat. This is the drink that will flip the switch. I don’t even know how I got here, to this place, to this point. Something is happening to me lately. I’m drinking too much. My sheets are soaking wet when I wake up from nightmares of decaying corpses. I order another drink and swig it, trying to forget about the latest case I can’t shake. Crime solving for me is more complex than the challenge of the hunt, or the process of piecing together a scientific puzzle. The thought of good people suffering drives me to the point of obsession.

Bourbon and Crime
Reviewed: 04-27-22
I only dinged one star for the in depth about the GSK. It's been covered so I would have hoped for a different one, but overall a great listen and look into someone who catches the elusive bad guys. Now I'm going to have some bourbon and solve some crimes.

I need to get on and counterbalance the bad reviews. I think these ladies are hilarious and so weird in the best way possible. There are lots of true crime podcasts that banter first (My Favorite Murder comes to mind and it's WILDY popular). You can skip to the case or listen while Kerry and Quinlan serenade their Patreons, I might be biased bc they sang my name today, but the podcast is amazing and I highly recommend it.

Story
From the hero whistleblower of the infamous Theranos scam, Thicker than Water is a look at never-before-revealed details behind closed doors at the company, revealing a cautionary tale of corporate bullying, gaslighting, ego, and wealth running amok in Silicon Valley. Tyler Shultz had been in the workforce for less than a year when he emailed Elizabeth Holmes, his employer and the CEO and founder of Theranos, with concerns that the company’s lab practices were faulty, ignored quality control, and were potentially dangerous to patients.

No it's not a book, but Tyler comes off as a genuine guy who got caught up with some very manipulative people. Glad he was able to tell the truth in his own way.

Story
"The tragedies keep coming. As we reel from the latest horror..." So begins a new epilogue, illustrating how Columbine became the template for nearly two decades of "spectacle murders". It is a false script, seized upon by a generation of new killers. In the wake of Newtown, Aurora, and Virginia Tech, the imperative to understand the crime that sparked this plague grows more urgent every year. What really happened April 20, 1999? The horror left an indelible stamp on the American psyche, but most of what we "know" is wrong.

Dave Cullen has compiled an amazing and heavy book. Eric Harris was a narcissitic psycopath, Dylan was emotionally unstable, Throw in some teenage hormones and you have the kinda answer to why this happened. Maybe the solution to why it keeps happening? I dunno, I'm not a psychiatrist but this is worth a listen/read. Maybe more schools should make it required reading.

Great narration and I truly loved Maria's story. Sutton Foster was a great choice, but I unfortunately am not in love with Book 2. Which is disappointing. I'll just watch the movie next and go on to Book 3 :)

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
Panic is a legendary game played by graduating seniors in the middle-of-nowhere town of Carp, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher: After a series of challenges ranging from sleeping in a haunted house to running across a highway blindfolded, one winner takes home a cash prize in the tens of thousands at the end of the summer. Participating players are sworn to secrecy, which means little is known of Panic’s history. Until now.
