Story
In 10 lectures, award-winning historian Patrick N. Allitt transports listeners to England in the 1840s and 1850s. During those two decades, Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, became one of the most influential people in the country and remains a figure of fascination even today. In fact, the British royal family as we know it wouldn't exist without the private and public actions of this detached, impartial, and upright political figure.

Interesting Discussion

I didn't realize how influential Prince Albert was during his brief life, and the impact he had on the monarchy. This was easy to listen to and was the right length for the subject matter.

Story
Half-Korean, half-Japanese, Masaji Ishikawa has spent his whole life feeling like a man without a country. This feeling only deepened when his family moved from Japan to North Korea when Ishikawa was just thirteen years old, and unwittingly became members of the lowest social caste. His father, himself a Korean national, was lured to the new Communist country by promises of abundant work, education for his children, and a higher station in society. But the reality of their new life was far from utopian.

Informative Memoir

This was an interesting memoir. This is the first first-hand account I’ve read of life in North Korea; it was eye opening and informative. It was heartbreaking to read if the deplorable conditions the author and his family faced.

A Normal Life in an Abnormal World

Good concept
Reviewed: 01-15-25
This was around a 3.75 for me; I think it could have been shorter. However, there were many funny parts, and I really enjoyed the satirical aspect of office life. The super hero’s were also interestingly crafted.

Good thriller
Reviewed: 12-26-24
This was a decent mystery/thriller. I thought the ending was well done...and the freezer scene made me a little claustrophobic! I listened to this on audio and thought the narration was okay; the narration for one of the characters seemed a little over the top at times.
