Story
Dr. Tyson Klein is a quantum physicist who has dedicated his entire life to his research. At CERN, he analyses data generated by the Large Hadron Collider, the world's biggest and most powerful particle accelerator. Now, Ty believes he's found a pattern in its output. It looks like an organised data stream, being broadcast over what he calls a quantum radio. Could it be a signal from another universe? A message sent from the future? Or something else entirely?

The book was good at the start but I soured on it when the descriptions of the main characters were read more toward the middle. Then it's creative spark vanished and it seemed geared toward young adults playing video games. I'll not be buying the sequel if there is one.

Story
AD 2150: Chris Randall just lost his job as a bodyguard. That night, after picking up his wife, Bree, from her shift at a local casino, he breaks the bad news. Moments later, thunder cracks the sky, but there’s no lightning. Flaming debris rain across the valley, and a dark mass goes sailing out of the clouds, headed straight for LA. It’s not one of the Union’s starships, because they can’t defy gravity like that. But then, what is it? The answer chills both Chris and Bree to their cores: It’s an invasion.

Sixteen minutes later, the unthinkable happens: The plane plunges into the ocean. The only survivors are the painter Scott Burroughs and a four-year-old boy, who is now the last remaining member of an immensely wealthy and powerful media mogul's family. Was it by chance that so many influential people perished? Or was something more sinister at work?

Very disappointed!
Reviewed: 06-07-18
I have either read or listened to ALL of Nelson DeMille's novels but I can't even get beyond Chapter 2. There's background music throughout the book (I'm assuming)! I kept hoping it would stop but it's so distracting that I'm having trouble concentrating on the story to even tell if it's interesting. How can I listen and imagine the plot building up to whatever climax DeMille has offered with background music intensifying when the story is supposed to be intense? It reminds me a bit of movies with background music. It may work in movies but when listening to a book, I want to hear the words and inflection of the narrator and nothing else! .Next there'll be laugh tracks at humorous parts! It also makes me wonder if the book and the narrator aren't good enough to be enjoyable on their own without the music promoting the listener when the story is intense parts and and when it's not. It's not for me!!!
