Story
Sloane Parker is dreading her birthday. She doesn’t need a reminder she’s getting older, or that she’s feeling indifferent about her own life. Her husband surprises her with a birthday-weekend getaway—not with him, but with Sloane’s longtime best friend, troublemaker extraordinaire Naomi. Sloane anticipates a weekend of wine tastings and cozy robes and strategic avoidance of issues she’d rather not confront, like her husband’s repeated infidelity.

Great story but too short!

I enjoyed the banter and new adventures the two main female characters go thru. They are similar in ways but have totally different lifestyles and push each other out of their confort zones. The way they got turned was interesting and totally could have been prevented if the group of vampires they meet were more responsible. I enjoyed the story but I feel like it just abruptly ended… like where’s the rest, maybe a few more chapters to wrap it up would be nice.

Story
Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they're real.

Lots of world building and endless regular days with Bryce and Hunt Athalar. The voice actress did a great job distinguishing the different characters using accents, intonation, and pitch. I just struggled getting through this book with all the endless daily activities. I feel like this book could have been a lot shorter. All in all a good story.

I enjoyed this rendition of a midwife’s life in the late 1700’s. I learned a lot about what her life would have been like as well as society at the time. The accents were great and the ending was shocking.
