Story
Do you ride the escalator or do you take the stairs? No matter how you define success, it always requires one thing: self-discipline. But as popular speaker and strategist Rory Vaden explains, we live in an "escalator world", one that's filled with shortcuts, quick fixes, and distractions that make it all too easy to slide into procrastination, compromise, and mediocrity. What seems like an easier path is really much harder in the end - and, most important, it won't take you where you want to go.

Misogynistic ...
Reviewed: 10-25-24
The author seems to mean well but definitely is a product of a misogynistic society. If you are responsible for care of the children and house work none of this advice is realistic. You can only take the advice from this book if you
have someone willing to sacrifice their dreams to take care of the family you only have every other Saturday to spend with them.

Story
In How to Think Like a Woman, Penaluna blends memoir, biography, and criticism to tell the stories of four women, weaving throughout an alternative history of philosophy. Funny, honest, and wickedly intelligent, this is a moving meditation on what philosophy could look like if women were treated equally.

Chauvanist men and the women who cater to them.
Reviewed: 09-15-24
I'm finding it very difficult to get through this book. The main love interest is verbally abusive and somewhat physically abusive. This is no longer acceptable behavior. As a woman I just don't enjoy men who treat women as if their children.
This tory is very juvenile.

Story
In this delightful, acclaimed bestseller, one of the world’s leading cognitive scientists tackles the workings of the human mind. What makes us rational—and why are we so often irrational? How do we see in three dimensions? What makes us happy, afraid, angry, disgusted, or sexually aroused? Why do we fall in love? And how do we grapple with the imponderables of morality, religion, and consciousness?

Listening to Steven Pinker used terms of kidnappers is very disturbing. While there is a lot of good information in here He is he is obviously misogynistic. To say a kidnap and rape victim is the perpetrator's wife is disgusting. I think you could teach us about other people's culture without making it so misleading.

Story
Valdez Jones VIII calls himself Wrecker because his great-great-great-great-great-grandfather salvaged shipwrecks for a living. So is it destiny, irony, or just bad luck when Wrecker comes across a speedboat that has run hard aground on a sand flat? The men in the boat don't want Wrecker to call for help—in fact, they'll pay him to forget he ever saw them. Wrecker would be happy to forget, but he keeps seeing these men all over Key West—at the marina, even in the cemetery. And now they want more than his silence—they want a lookout.
