Loved this latest installment in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed the narration. Fiona Shaw did a great job. I found her approach unobtrusive, and enjoyable to listen to. I suppose the sound of narrator's voice is subjective to a listener, and changing a narrator in the middle of a series can be an adjustment for listeners, but I have no complaints. If you've liked the other books you should give this one a chance. I'm very interested to find out what happens in book four.

Story
On a whim, Grady Kendall applies to work as a live-in caretaker for a luxury property in Hawaiʻi, as far from his small-town Maine life as he can imagine. Within days he's flying out to an estate on remote Hokuloa Road, where he quickly uncovers a dark side to the island’s idyllic reputation: it has long been a place where people vanish without a trace. When a young woman from his flight becomes the next to disappear, Grady is determined—and soon desperate—to figure out what's happened to Jessie, and to all those staring out of the island’s “missing" posters.

Another Great Book by This Amazing Writer!

I've been reading/listening to this author's books since the 1990s. I've read nearly everything she's published, with the exception of the television/film tie-in books from popular franchises, though I'll probably get to them at some point. I love the way she weaves mystery, suspense, science and folklore into her stories. I appreciate the thematic threads she's worked into her last several books. Don't want to spoil anything here, but some things are happening everywhere all the time, and she's made a point of addressing those things. The narrator's performance was perfect for this book. As always, I am looking forward to her next book.

I've been reading/listening to this series since book 3. This latest book is just as good as the others. I took one star away from my overall rating because they added more echo sound effects. I don't mind it that much when it's used for a phone call, but it was used throughout this time, for a specific reason. I still found it annoying. At first I thought it was my ear buds. It wasn't. Others might not mind, but I find sound effects and music in the text of a book more of a distraction than a feature. Aside from that, I will continue to purchase forthcoming books in this series.

Story
Born to the ranks of the lower English gentry in 1775, Jane Austen led what some have mistakenly described as an ordinary and unremarkable life - a life that ended all too soon at the age of 41. But from this life, Austen drew inspiration for six novels that all rank as literary masterpieces, including the widely beloved Pride and Prejudice. So, what do we really know about Austen’s life and influences?

Retired publisher Susan Ryeland is living the good life. She is running a small hotel on a Greek island with her long-term boyfriend Andreas. It should be everything she's always wanted. But is it? She's exhausted with the responsibilities of making everything work on an island where nothing ever does, and truth be told, she's beginning to miss London. And then the Trehearnes come to stay. The strange story they tell about an unfortunate murder that took place on the same day and in the same hotel in which their daughter was married fascinates Susan and piques her editor's instincts.

Anthony Horowitz is the BEST!
Reviewed: 12-30-20
Great story. I was delighted to learn this was now a series. This and the The Word is Murder series are two of my favorites. Delightful, fairly clean, puzzle mysteries of the Golden Age variety. Definitely listen to the first book before this one. Characters and ongoing story lines are always better when experienced from the beginning, in my opinion. Can't wait for the third books in both series! With that said, I took one star off for Story b/c I am a woman and I found the very end of the book a bit...off. I understand Horowitz is writing a female protagonist for the first time with this series, I listened to his interview on the podcast All About Agatha, so I extended a bit of latitude, That said, Susan's motivation for the decision she makes at the end felt like it came from a man's perspective. Other readers might not mind or notice this, but I found it a bit out of her character. It's a pretty minor thing, but in this day and age it might not ring true for some people. Don't let that stop you from giving this fantastic book a try. It's pros far outweigh this one minor shift toward a con.
