It was ok

It was just ok. Bought it at a 2:1 so glad I didn't use a full credit. It was what I would call "finishable" but nothing outstanding.

Predictable but entertaining

Perfect length for a road trip. Built the story and concluded it well. Didn’t seem too rushed or too drawn out. Good narration too.

Overall enjoyed this one. It seemed disjointed but at the end, the author brought it all together. Maybe a bit abruptly, but it all came together for a good read. Can’t wait for the next installment.

Story
An elusive courtesan, Marthe de Florian had cultivated a life of art and beauty, casting out all recollections of her impoverished childhood in the dark alleys of Montmartre. With Europe on the brink of war, she shares her story with her granddaughter, Solange Beaugiron, using her prized possessions to reveal her innermost secrets. Most striking of all are a beautiful string of pearls and a magnificent portrait of Marthe painted by the Italian artist Giovanni Boldini.

Interesting story built on a mysterious headline

Liked the book, especially the parts about Marthe. The reader for Solange’s part was so annoying, I almost couldn’t finish.
