Story
Toni Murphy was eighteen when she and her boyfriend, Ryan, were wrongly convicted of the murder of her younger sister. Now she is thirty-four and back in her hometown, working every day to forge and adjust to a new life on the outside. She's doing everything in her power to avoid violating her parole and going back to prison. But nothing is making that easy – not Ryan, who is convinced he can figure out the truth; not her mother, who clearly doubts Toni's innocence; and certainly not the group of women who made Toni's life miserable in high school.

If you can take 95 of a book covering one injustice after another- not even realistically, then have 5% of a resolution that shows nothing of the good that should follow up such a tragedy, you’ll love this book. Only stayed with the book hoping for a great ending but the ending didn’t even merit the arduous journey to get there.

Twice a week, with strollers in tow, they get together in Prospect Park, seeking refuge from the isolation of new motherhood. When the group’s members agree to meet for drinks at a hip local bar, they have in mind a casual evening of fun, a brief break from their daily routine. DAZED AND CONFUSED.
Reviewed: 11-30-19
This book is beyond confusing. The way it is written makes it hard to tell if the narrator is the antagonist or protagonist. Not until the end does it become clear and you are left wondering if you understood anything that had happened throughout. Had to go back and re-listen to make sense of it. So much confusion in this book it is impossible to recommend it on any level. Also the way motherhood and new mothers are depicted is demeaning to any woman. Stereotypes are rampant.

Story
John Hart creates a literary thriller that is as suspenseful as it is poignant, a riveting murder mystery layered beneath the southern drawl of a humble North Carolina lawyer. When Work Pickens finds his father murdered, the investigation pushes a repressed family history to the surface and he sees his own carefully constructed facade begin to crack.

Soooo looong

It was so very, very long and arduous. It could have been told in half the time. I was disappointed. The protagonist never really came into his own. He stayed stagnant, disempowered, and weak until the end. Nothing was really resolved by his action. The conflict just resolved almost by accident. The right people show up at right time. Nothing he did brought about a resolution.
