If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic/dystopian reads and you love a good sense of humor on top of that, welcome to Mad Mick. To be sure, this is not a new set, but it's still finding fans regularly. Conor is a simple man who only wants to live his simple life. After years as a world-class assassin, he's happy to hide out in the Appalachian hills with his daughter. But stupid people keep doing stupid things, and, well... Conor can't stand injustice. It's that simple.

The banter between Conor and his highly volatile and aptly named daughter, BARB, is a great stress-buster and just plain fun. You'll find more character depth here than your average post-apocalyptic novel, and 3 great stories as well.

If you're a fan of the Rachel Hatch series, add this to your TBR list. It's short, but manages to bring still more insight to the warrior woman we've grown fond of. Those who have not yet experienced the wonder of this series will still find enjoyment in discovering this character and will likely want to start following the series.

I've read it and enjoyed it immensely. Now I need to go back and reread (listen to) this book again! There is so much packed into this story that one read-thru just doesn't seem to do it justice. It's obviously chock-full of allegory, and I know I didn't catch it all! Great story.

I'm loving this Haven's Rock series, maybe even better than the original Rockton series it grew from. Eric and Casey are still the main characters along with their big newfie, Storm. But new characters are joining them daily--and creating new chaos as the town tries to find its footing.
This story features a 10-year-old boy who believes he's seeing a bear. He's in Haven Rock because he's been traumatized and bad people want to kill him. So the adults are inclined to believe this is just a manifestation of his recent trauma. But is it really?
The storyline rockets along with Armstrong's standard grace and style, dragging me into their Yukon wilderness haven that seems to have a certain bliss to it. Since I am neither one who enjoys primitive camping or very cold weather it's a testament to the skill of Ms. Armstrong that I find myself daydreaming about being a resident there. This is wonderfully dynamic, with that great mix of thrills, mystery, drama, and a touch of romance.
More, please!!

If It's Action You Want...

...this is your book! Welcome to the Derek Harrington series, book one. I love a good action-filled story with a strong alpha male that is unapologetic for who is; testosterone-fueled and morally secure. I don't keep a steady diet of them, but they're a go-to when I'm looking for something off my usual path.
Natural protectors in action-adventures like Arliss Cutter, Jack Reacher, Joe Pickett, Ryder Creed, Cork McConnell, and the like are characters I can understand. I'm now adding Derek Harrington to this list.
If you consider such characters to suffer from "toxic masculinity," this is not the book for you. Keep swiping. But if you want a well-written storyline with a strong character and some satisfying justice, jump right in!

"Hole in the Woods" turned out to be a great story, although full of heartbreak. Based on a true cold case and the father who would not leave it alone, this story is chilling and sad but brings hope, healing, and resilience with it. This is a great story for fans of true crime, suspense/thrillers, and murder mysteries. The author masterfully puts readers into the mind of the young woman whose life ended too soon and then gives us insight into the inner workings of a cold case that shouldn't have been.

Sensitive readers should be aware that the violence is graphic in this story of rape and murder.

If you like short romances set in the Christmas season, check this one out. It's cute, sweet, and a little steamy as two singles in an apartment building keep wishing the other person was interested in them. Thank heavens for mistletoe!

Kendra Elliot is a "go-to" for me, any time I'm looking for a suspense novel with great characters and a touch of romance. As this series has progressed, the cast of characters has grown larger, but the original favorites pop in and out depending on the case.

This is a great series that can be read as individual novels in any order, but for people like me, it's best enjoyed when read from the beginning. Either way, they're great stories with strong characters and storylines that are well-done, twisty, and full of suspense yet not over-the-top in terms of graphic violence. If you're a fan of Melinda Leigh, these will be completely to your liking.

The Arliss Cutter series is a phenomenal set of novels for those of us who enjoy thrillers full of suspense, great characters, disgusting bad guys, and a whole lot of testosterone. Cutter is a US Marshall stationed in Alaska, where the four-legged critters aren't the only wildlife.

Cutter is a superb character, full of a sense of justice, the desire to do the right thing and that amazing white-knight syndrome that makes him an excellent protector. In some ways, he's reminiscent of C.J. Box's Joe Pickett character. Except Joe Picket is calmer, less prone to violence, and always stays within the confines of the law--no matter what. Arliss is more from the ends-justify-the-means camp. He believes wholeheartedly in justice and will do all he can to ensure that's done through the justice system. But he's pragmatic enough to know that sometimes the system lets us down. He won't be stopped by such speed bumps.

This addition to the series had all the big story arcs come to completion, leading me to believe this must be the last of the series. If so, it was a very satisfactory finish. But I'm hoping there's more to come here. The tales of wild Alaska, the fascinating characters, and the evil perpetrators are an inspired combination. This series can be picked up with any book in the set, but I suggest starting with the first to truly understand Arliss' world.
