Story
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Story
Among the ashes of a dying world, an agent of the Commandment finds a letter. It reads: Burn before reading. Thus begins an unlikely correspondence between two rival agents hellbent on securing the best possible future for their warring factions. Now, what began as a taunt, a battlefield boast, becomes something more. Something epic. Something romantic. Something that could change the past and the future. Except the discovery of their bond would mean the death of each of them. There’s still a war going on, after all. And someone has to win. That’s how war works, right?

Not for me
Reviewed: 06-11-20
It took me a long time to get into the story, by the time I was getting hooked it was over. The first half I didn't know what was going on other than the time war. The whos and whys are vague until the end, but by then I was just listening to get through it. I preferred the parts that weren't letters to Blue or Red, that's why I found the second half more appealing. It ends with another letter and that was it for me. The story is far more romantic than I anticipated, but I couldn't figure out why they were in love. I was distracted when I listened to this, but it seemed like they were enemy penpals who decide they love each other. I think I missed something, but their love is apparent in the end. This book wasn't for me - I needed something more from it, but it was never offered. I like the idea of the premise.

Story
In 1780s London, a prosperous merchant finds his quiet life upended when he unexpectedly receives an unusual creature - and meets a most extraordinary woman - in this much-lauded, atmospheric debut that examines our capacity for wonder, obsession, and desire. One September evening in 1785, Jonah Hancock hears an urgent knocking on his front door near the docks of London. The captain of one of Jonah’s trading vessels is waiting eagerly on the front step, bearing shocking news. On a voyage to the Far East, he sold the Jonah’s ship for something rare and far more precious: a mermaid.

Not as fantastical as I hoped
Reviewed: 08-18-19
It's more like the show Harlots, but with less drama. I was hoping for a fantasy story, but this is much more rooted in reality. I kept hoping for more, but never got it.

We listened to this about a million times already, and we'll probably listen a million more. It's fun, the songs are catchy, and my kids love the combination of songs and stories. I turn this on in the car, and they always settle down to listen. It's been the best Audible download to date!

Story
In September 1838, a young Englishman named Charles Darwin hit upon the idea that "natural selection" among competing individuals would lead to wondrous adaptations and species diversity. Twenty-one years passed between that epiphany and publication of On the Origin of Species. The human drama and scientific controversy of that time constitute a fascinating, tangled tale that illuminates this cautious naturalist who sparked an intellectual revolution.
