I think this series of books should be a miniseries! A Netflix original series. Can be as good as Roots.

Story
In vivid and visceral prose, Tibor Jones South Asia Prize-winning writer Avni Doshi tells a story, at once shocking and empathetic, about love and betrayal between a mother and a daughter. A journey into shifting memories, altering identities, and the subjective nature of truth, Burnt Sugar is a stunning and unforgettable debut.

Every book this lady narrates has the same inflection and lilt in every single sentence. It always sounds as if she’s about to break out in song. I love the author but to hear this narrator beat her writings is criminal.

Story
Rhythm is a college student in DC who learns of Moses King, the man who started the Disciples, the largest street gang in Chicago. She reads his court case, and the inconsistencies in his trial transcripts leads her to write him, asking him if he really did kill the Black Chicago congressman Perry Homes and rape his wife, Fiona. It seems unlikely; Moses started the Disciples to make a positive impact on the Black community.
