Story
A political prisoner throughout his childhood, Antón Castillo (Giancarlo Esposito) dreams of becoming El Presidente just like his father before he was killed and his family imprisoned during a revolution. A Leukaemia diagnosis might be his undoing, but an experimental drug that can only be grown in Yara, keeps him and his dream alive. But to hold on to power and keep up with production demand for his miracle drug, he must go to extreme lengths that shock even his own son Diego. Journalist and activist Clara García is determined to stop this dictator in the making whatever the cost.

Fast paced. All star cast.

The book moves very fast. I felt that some parts of the story moved a bit to fast leaving me wondering how we got from point A to point B. Otherwise It’s a dark gritty story in the best way. All star cast really brings the characters to life. Very engaging from start to finish. I would recommend this.

Some of the worst dialogue I have ever heard.
Reviewed: 02-22-23
The dialogue between the main character and her male friends was awful to say the least. It made me loose respect for what are supposed to be strong male characters because they allowed her to disrespect them over and over. The dialogue also made it hard for me to like the main character because the way she spoke to her male friends was very childish and toxic. The narration also did not do the male characters justice. The narration made it hard to take the male characters seriously and I ended up feeling like they were more cringy then anything else. That being said this book had a lot of potential the world builder was good and the climax of the book was very good. Those are the redeeming qualities. All and all I would not recommend this book.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. Definitely a lot of useful information in this book. Very practical advice that aged well. This was my introduction into stoicism and I feel like this book was a good place to start. CONS the footnotes make it hard to listen to and some of the passages are very boring. All and all I would say it was worth the listen.

Story
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

I really didn’t like the main character. If it was a completely deferent main character this book could have been a five star. The narration was good. I also liked the positive message about being content and grateful for the life you have.
