Most touching were the accounts of the Tommies who were there; like the recent motion picture by Peter Jackson - They shall not grow old.

The beauty of the language, timing of the lines all conspired to make me resolve to see the films of the young Burton.

Stephen Frye as Lady Bracknell is a delight. what a splendidly garrulous grand dame. This is a spoken word classic.

Cast members with perfect timing, clever script, and the sonorous voice of a young Benedict Cumberbatch. Need I say more?

If I had been given the task of working with a class of students on the subject of leadership - be it any profession - I would require this book as part of an assigned reading list. Forester's skill in revealing the internal doubts of Commander Krause in the face of unrelenting stress continually amazes me. I believe Eduardo Ballerini was the perfect choice for the reader. I was captivated by the story and the narration.

I have read the text edition and the audio edition many times. Nothing seems to compare with it for depth, breadth, and the power of Shaara's description of the human condition.
I have personally taken the guided tour of the battlefield at Gettysburg Memorial National Park. The volunteer guide who accompanied us worth every cent of the extra cost. When he realized I wanted to go to Little Round Top, he made sure I had the time to make that part of the tour the highlight. Gazing down on the ground that the rebel troops had to move to take the hill, I tried hard to put myself in the place of Chamberlain on that fateful day.
This book is one of the reasons I so love historical novels.

Mattie Ross joins the roster of strong women in literature. Again and again, I marvel at Portis' description of her humanity and noble qualities as she perseveres. Donna Tartt's essay at the end is not to be missed.

While the combat descriptions are riveting, the final chapters of Clarence and Gustav's meeting brought me to tears. We readers who never played a part in that war may never understand it. But we are grateful to authors like Adam Makos who can help in that endless search for understanding.
