Very disappointed by the gratuitous profanity. It’s like the author was being paid for each G.D. he could fit in. Very glad the others in the series, so far, haven’t been like this.

On a NUMA training mission in the Caribbean, Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala catch a distress call from a nearby freighter. Leaping into action, they locate a damaged vessel and a dead captain clutching a shotgun. While searching the freighter for clues, Kurt and Joe are ambushed by crew members who seem terrified and disoriented, almost brainwashed. The trawler they were hauling has vanished, taken—the men say—by baffling lights that circled the ship.

Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm. In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks. In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance. Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead.

Story
Death is a topic Bradford Douglas is intimately familiar with. The young attorney is on a crusade against capital punishment. He’s saved a number of death row inmates, but none of his cases has been as tough as the one he now faces: Henry Combs, a vicious serial killer, has only hours to live when Douglas is summoned for a Hail Mary attempt to have the man’s sentence commuted to life imprisonment. As Douglas races to pursue whatever strategies he can think of, he finds his passion for justice giving way to something altogether different. An obsession.

Twisted
Reviewed: 05-04-21
The narrator did a really good job reading the story. After listening to this story I’m very happy because of two things.
1-This was a free listen and;
2-This was a short story.
I initially had it at one star, but after further thought I gave it two extra stars because there is no vulgar language in the story and that in itself has become such a rarity with so many authors of late.

And once again, way too much gratuitous profanity. Who are these authors that write like this pandering to with the language. After a while it made my brain want to vomit. I was really hoping to find a new author and story line, but unfortunately this turned out to be a politically opinionated foul languaged diatribe.

Why did I listen to this book
Reviewed: 10-15-19
Part over the top action, part soft porn, all filled with more “F” bombs and”G.D.’s” than I want to count. This leads me back to why DID I listen to this book. I had listened to later books in the series and I didn’t remember them being this in your face vulgar. Other than that reason, just to see how this train wreck would end is the only reason I can think of.
