When Mallon the Undying threatened the land years ago, the elves stopped him - and then disappeared. Now Mallon's followers seek to bring him back to finish what he started. Only the Keepers - storytellers, historians, and magic-wielders - are left to stand against them. Alaric, who betrayed everything he believed to save his wife - and still failed. Distinct Characters
Reviewed: 10-30-24
The author has a unique take on a couple of classic fantasy characters. The Elves and Dwarves have Sharp personalities, just a bit different than other writers. I like the twist on the development of these characters. I'll leave it at that.

Story
Emery Luple hunts monsters, solves crimes, confronts myths, and does it all in style. So it’s downright embarrassing when he’s killed in the unforgiving desert while hunting a monster that never should have been there.

Good action .
Reviewed: 05-12-24
The characters in this story, though very military in their philosophy, have nice variations in personality. these variations help drive the action in this novel in a very human way.
As a woman and a fairly liberal thinking person, I find the frequent assertion that men killing men is the only answer in every conflict to be a lazy theme. Yes. It is a military novel and an such an action novel would be kind of stupid with out violent death. But they don't need to assert that there are no other ways to get control of a population in conflict.
That is why I'll move on to another author after this . Not that his story is slow or without inventive problem solving but that the philosophy is trite.

Then the dragons had to rise up from their thousand-year slumber, take over Earth and ruin everything. Twenty years later, Birdie is living her worst life in her hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, working at her father's Seed and Feed (and Bagels). Then, a mysterious dragon appears in front of the store seeking her help. He’s got a bone to pick with his fellow dragons–and he wants to hit them where it hurts.

I feel like I was listening to an almost interesting novel. I thought, this gal won't end up settling for the misogynistic goals set by her society. I hoped for more depth in the plot and the female characters. It didn't quite satisfy .

Story
When Martha Einkorn fled her father’s isolated compound in Oregon, she never expected to find herself working for a powerful social media mogul hell-bent on controlling everything. Now, she’s surrounded by mega-rich companies designing private weather, predictive analytics, and covert weaponry, while spouting technological prophecy. Martha may have left the cult, but if the apocalyptic warnings in her father’s fox and rabbit sermon—once a parable to her—are starting to come true, how much future is actually left?

A unique (and hopeful?) account of the apocalypse
- By Geonn Cannon on 11-08-23
A complete package; excellent sci-fi, distinct characters, thorough plot, seemless narration.
Reviewed: 02-05-24
Plausible though enticingly exaggerated future technology AND social problems make for exciting possibilities in this author's apocalyptic creation. How did the publishers get such a great cast of narrators and keep them so seamlessly fit together as a whole pleasant to listen to audio book?
The author kept me interested in the people and the tech science. She made me believe that I knew what was going on but surprised me again and again.
Conservatives and liberals will find themselves in the social implications of where a world like ours could go in this plausible fantasy.

Good writing. Overenthusiastic Narrator.
Reviewed: 08-08-23
This story offers an important point of view of a young "mixed race" woman coming off age just as the civil war was brewing. I thought the main character's development was enlightening but was sometimes put off by the narrator's breathy enthusiasm for many significant situations. I would have liked a more serious tone.
