Another great story for the series

Hm, shouldn’t this be book 10? I would consider Echo Road as book 9. Anyhoo, this was a wild ride of a case for Sheriff Taggert. I so totally enjoyed seeing the deepening of Bree’s and Matt’s relationship. And, wow, Jager’s change in attitude was prolly the most surprising. I’m totally looking forward to the next installment in this series.

Story
When Anna Hartley’s husband, Henry, calls her with a terrible, guilty confession, she can’t believe what she hears. It has to be a bad joke—the mild, predictable artist she married would never hurt a fly, let alone commit murder. But her confusion turns to horror when police find his body washed up on the banks of the Rio Grande.

This was a slooooow meandering story. I stuck with it though because I wanted to know how the two plot lines were going to converge… and it wasn’t that great. I found most of the characters to be two-dimensional; once again caricatures that lacked substance and nuance. This is the second novel I’ve read from Ms Glass and will be my last. Not for me.

Story
My first day in Montana, I got into a tug-of-war over a grocery store shopping cart. The most handsome man I’d ever seen broke up the scuffle before he asked me on a date. I was seconds away from accepting but then he told me his name. As an owner of the Haven River Ranch, Jax Haven wasn’t my boss. But he wasn’t not my boss either. Obviously, my only option was to turn him down, scurry away, then pretend like he was a stranger on my first day of work. And obviously, I could never, ever admit that he was my secret crush.

Not as engrossing as book one
Reviewed: 01-12-25
The continued and obvious omission of who Eddie was to Sasha grew old fast 🙄 I’m not sure why the relationship was not disclosed until chapter 26 (of 28 🙄). It didn’t add anything to the story. So, whatever. I found that annoying and earned a minus star in the rating. Otherwise, I found the characterization of the spoiled, entitled Jax to be spot on and cheered when he came to his senses.

Story
In a warren of crumbling buildings and desperate people called the Old City, there stands a hospital with cinderblock walls that echo the screams of the poor souls inside. In the hospital, there is a woman. Her hair, once blond, hangs in tangles down her back. She doesn't remember why she's in such a terrible place. Just a tea party long ago, and long ears, and blood.

Ugh, such violence
Reviewed: 01-05-25
This has been on my TBR list for so long. lol 😂 So, yes, as part of my 2025 Reading Goals to read from my library, this novel ticked that box.
I do adore a retelling and I loved Lewis Carroll’s stories. Combine these with a touch of horror? Oh yeah!
So, I found the story rather revolting. It was filled with sexual violence and misogyny but not much of a retelling. Just sort of a twisted, skewed perspective of the original story. Ugh, I purchased the series and I don’t know if I can stomach the next two books 😞

Amazing and Empowering
Reviewed: 12-31-24
Ok, I’ve been trying to read this book since forever. That’s clearly an exaggeration but not really. I initially received a hardback version of this in the late 90s as a Christmas present. And at the beginning of every year, I would pick it up and promise myself that it would be the year I completed it only to have forgotten about it around March or so.
Not this year though! I’ve actually finished reading it! 💃ðŸ?»ðŸ•ºðŸ?» Someone somewhere told me or I heard it or saw it on TikTok/Instagram, that the best way to make a habit stick was to tie it to an existing habit 💡A serious lightbulb moment for me, lol. So that’s what I did. I added reading a daily entry/meditation to my well-established morning routine… and woohoo! I read it daily and finished it this year 😊
This is a life changing book. Obviously, it takes patience and grace to read/do something daily. And then to take on the gentle practices that this book is all about is even more amazing. I’m so glad to have completed it and I will continue to read the daily entries going forward!

Now that they’ve arranged to interview Martin, they want answers. Martin is ready to share everything he knows. One thing is for certain: when it comes to escaping death, luck doesn’t figure into it at all.

When Ava Harrison receives a letter containing an unusual job listing one month after the sudden death of her ex-boyfriend, she thinks she’s being haunted. Ava has always been too fearful to even travel, so no one’s more surprised than she is when she throws caution to the wind and drives to the distant beachside town.
