Love this book. Love this narrator. Especially love this author. Been listening to her since I was a teen. Her stories are beloved and this one has a really fun, passionate, intelligent, sarcastic heroine at its center. Aly will delight and inspire you.

I remembered this series the other day and immediately looked it up on Audible. It’s been a joy to listen to again. The narrator’s voice is soothing and hypnotic. The story is interesting, charming, with a good balance of humor and seriousness, and is delightfully dark. I’m looking forward to reliving the rest of the series!

I loved it. It was easy to listen to. Fast paced. I liked all of the POV characters. The narrator had a soothing voice and was very competent. The story was engaging and clever. As we’re the characters. I will definitely be listening to more Patricia A. McKillip.

I have loved this book since I was a child. I come back to it whenever I need a comforting tale. It is well written and well read. Ella is a smart, spunky, strong, willful heroine. Her story is about finding and fighting for free will. It’s a fun, beautiful, unique take on the classic Cinderella tale. A wonderful coming of age story. I cannot recommend it enough.

Required reading for the Study/Soulfinder series!

Fun to listen to some of my other favorite characters POV. I really enjoy Maria’s short stories. They help connect the main books and fill in information you need to know going forward. Especially Ice Study, which connects Fire Study to Shadow Study, and is referred to as a prequel to Shadow Study. If you haven’t read the Study series, you might be confused. I fully recommend it. Start with Poison study. Enjoy!

I read these books when I was 15 or 16 years old and I’m turning 30 in 2.5 months. They’re even better than I remembered! Sometimes when you want to listen to an audiobook, especially an old beloved series, the narrator kinda ruins it for you. This narrator is fantastically good at her work! Her voice is soothing, completely understandable, with so much texture and the ability to keep all the voices unique. I’m enjoying reliving these stories and this experience immensely! If you’re looking for intrigue, assassins, magicians, daring deeds, a splash of romance, and tragic heartfelt stories, with a strong female protagonist, then I can’t recommend this series enough!
*Trigger Warning*
Does contain scenes and dialogue about torture, rape, and murder.
I do think the way they deal with it is pretty head on and honest by the main character Yelena.
