The Books of The North wrap up well.

I really like how the story wraps up here. All storyline addressed and tied in a bow, yet with just enough momentum to carry the characters into the future without us. This series could have ended here. I am verrry happy that there is so much more.

Story
More than 15 years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within. At this crucial moment, the lives of three radically different women converge, with potentially explosive results. Two have grown up as part of the first generation to come of age in the new order. The testimonies of these two young women are joined by a third: Aunt Lydia. Her complex past and uncertain future unfold in surprising and pivotal ways.

A fun read but a but shallow
Reviewed: 10-22-19
The Testaments is enjoyable. The performances added real drama to it. That being said it is nowhere near as good as Handmaid's Tale. It is very predictable and convenient. It doesn't embody the fear and sorrow of the original book and doesn't come close to the urgency in story telling. It is still a fun read and I would recommend it.

Narroator(s) did a great job. The story is great. Niven and Pournelle write well together. I've read other works by both of them and each of them. It's an interesting subject handled intelligently. Some "near future" tech is handled pretty well. The human aspects of the story hold up fine and the character development gets the job done. Fun to read. Fun to listen to while choring. 5 stars.

Story
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Great story, obviously, read perfectly. If I could pick one thing to change, it would be that I were receiving a massage while listening - nothing about the story or the performance needs changing in even the smallest way.

Story
Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden has had a rough couple of weeks. As the only openly practicing professional wizard in the Chicago area, he has squared off against a multitude of supernatural bad guys. Harry has won the day against demons, poltergeists, sorcerers, trolls, vampires, werewolves, and even an evil faerie godmother. You might think nothing could spook him. You would be wrong.

My only complaint is minor. The reader does very well but on occasion I find myself zagging mentally when he ziggs when it comes to inflection or cadence. the story is great he manages his voice well so that I know who's speaking this is the third book I've listened to in this series and I've enjoyed every one and I'm on my way to go buy the 4th.

Story
Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

This classic deserves better

A classic undiminished.
Reviewed: 03-08-17
some stories suffer from being read aloud. Whether it's annoying mispronunciations, an irritating tone of voice, or a pace that strikes the ear awkwardly, it's always a gamble.
Dune, a classic sci-fi masterpiece which I have read several times was a considerable gamble. The chances of a dramatic failure were much higher than the chances of a brilliant success.
I wish a single trip to the casino had paid off as handsomely as this audio book did for me. The performers seemed (rightly) confident in the story and never attempted to "improve" it woth over-acting.
If this is your first exposure to the Dune series, I envy you. Enjoy!

Story
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

A great look at a different world.
Reviewed: 03-03-17
Trevor Noah reads this book and you feel like you are there. His reading is woven through with the voices and dialects of all the different people he grew up with and around, which adds to the already immersive story. Trevor's story is almost more about his mother than it is about him. His love, thankfulness and profound respect for her is evident in every story he tells.
