Story
It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

Most of this book could have been edited out. The back story of the characters added nothing to the book. Very little about the Ojanox. Last hour of the book was interesting. I’m passing on this series. Narrator was good.

Some of the story was good. But the random shifts of different characters with out warning just killed it for me.
I didn’t care for most of the side stories and had to skip large portions of the story to get through it. Still love Koontz.

The author could have cut this book in half. It would have been 5 star. She tried making many strings with different characters then pull them together, but it didn’t work. First book was 5 stars.

Story
Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good. But as they say, all good things come to an end. One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed-and-breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job - deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there.

I might enjoy this story with a different narrator. Her voice is high and grating. It’s too annoying for me. Got through an hour before I gave up.
