Excellent narrator, engaging story

I care a lot about the quality of narration when it comes to audio books and I always wish that more reviews would specifically mention it. Even if it’s a great story/interesting topic, if the narration is boring, I can’t stick with it. So I’m happy to report that The Water Knife exceeds on both story and narration! I was engaged and riveted the whole way through. The narrator really brought to life the characters and the desperate dry world they inhabit. 5 out of 5 would recommend.

A Tale of Two Narrators

The substance of the story is fascinating and at times horrifying, but I have to admit, I thought the first half of the narration with Anne Marie Lee was a bit of a drag. A personal preference, for sure, but I guess I didn't find her narration that engaging. The later half of the book with Will Patton and Danny Campbell picked up a lot more for me. Still worth listening too, or reading, but not at the very top of my list for audio books.

Story
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Beautiful Audio Book

What a lovely and engaging story. Edward Herrmann narrates this story beautifully and I feel like I'm a better person for having listened to him tell this tale. He is a talent that is dearly missed.

Story
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

Scary and Engaging

I won't say much about this classic and beloved novel by IT, as many people have reviewed and given acclaim to the story itself. I will say that the audio version of this book is outstanding. One of the best, if not the best, audio book I've listened to. Steven Weber does an amazing job capturing every voice and beat of the characters. One of the presiding emotions in the book is fear - in all its forms, and Steven Weber does an unparalleled job of both encapsulating the fear the Losers Club and other characters felt when encountering IT, as well as inspiring fear of IT (and Tom, and Mr. Marsh, and Henry Bowers, and Patrick Hockstetter, etc.) in the listeners themselves. I spent about 6 months listening to this book in bursts. Although long, I would highly, highly recommend the audio book. Nothing I've listened to before or since has matched the epic-ness.
