Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Done with Reacher
Reviewed: 11-11-22
I'm a 15 plus year Audible listener and I've always enjoyed Lee Child's Reacher books, but this will be my last one. They've become cookie-cutter books with similar plots, events and characters just with different names. This one was written from the same template as at least 3 other recent ones. Disappointing. It's also very hard to listen to Scott Brick's overly dramatic delivery. His reading is so far overboard as to be difficult to listen for more than a few minutes. Every book he reads, no matter the author or subject is done the same way and gets very irritating. Where's Dick Hill when you need him? He was the real Reacher. Surely there's someone else out there that could do these books without the aching drama.

Story
One of the world’s greatest novelists, Leo Tolstoy was also the author of a number of superb short stories, one of his best known being “The Kreutzer Sonata.” This macabre story involves the murder of a wife by her husband. It is a penetrating study of jealousy as well as a piercing complaint about the way in which society educates men and women in matters of sex - a serious condemnation of the mores and attitudes of the wealthy, educated class.

Phenomenal!

Fantastic book and great performance by the reader. Tolstoy's grasp of the human condition and understanding of the concepts of marital love and jealousy are more than noteworthy. Every experienced married couple will easily identify with this couple, recently married (5 years or less) are dealing with the problems now - hopefully with different solutions. Modern teenagers, especially females, should read the first sections to learn the consequences of clothing choices.

I've always enjoyed Hiaasen's work and he remains one of the great wits of our time and his noteworthy sarcasm is, as always blistering. However, this book is more like a hit piece for the upcoming election than pointed commentary on his usual themes.
Scott Brick overdramatic reading contributed in making this a disappointing listen.
