The Widower's Journey Audiobook By Herb Knoll, Deborah Carr PhD, Robert L. Frick cover art

Religious parts ruined the book for me

An otherwise great book was ruined by the inclusion of the Abrahamic religious chapter and references. Mr. Knoll forgets that not all widowers are followers of these religious paths, and as such, he puts off those of us who don't. He could have made this book truly universal simply by leaving out these references. A shame, as it can be of great help to all widowers.

A very bad take on the Dickens' tale. Do yourself a favor, if you want a well written and preformed book abot Jacob Marley, get Jacob T. Marley by R. William Bennett. I'll be looking to get a refund on this drivel.

As an Historian, I am shocked and appalled that this was allowed to be a Great Courses audiobook. Poorly researched, with many controversial findings presented as full fact. Shame on Dr. Paxton.

Poorly presented, with little info on each story, and no data regarding any investigations. Just more pabulum for the masses without any follow-through. Boring and a waste of time.

Just awful retelling of MR James' fantastic ghost stories. The authors should be ashamed of themselves. Save your money and buy the MR James books instead of these modernized craptastic versions.

Many stories in the heyday of Pulp/Weird Tales were racist, but these stories are so overtly racist they make Lovecraft's racism look tame.

If you're looking for a well written and well researched book of allegedly true paranormal stories you will need to look elsewhere. Additionally, the narrator's voice is too gravelly to enjoy and he has a tendency to mispronounce names and words. I can now understand why the audiobook was so cheap to buy.

I have read all of the Dresden Files books, and love them so much I wanted to get a copy I can bring with me to listen to anytime. James Marsters truly brings the world of Harry Dresden alive in his readings of Jim Butcher's works. His voice is now the one I associate with all the characters. Great job on this one and all the ones he reads. I am hoping that he will get a chance to read Ghost Story, as I will not get the audio version of the book without him as the voice actor.

Tim Curry shines as the narrator of this beloved short story, doing the justice Dickens' tale deserves. His voice acting skills have always been top notch, and here they shine. Unlike abridged versions of this classic tale, he preforms the entire book, giving the story its depth sorely lacking in many other audio book, and most movie/TV adaptations. The Alastair Sim move version comes closest to the story, and remains a favorite of mine year in-year out, but Tim Curry's narration has taken its place as the best "performance" of this story ever. Bravo Mr Curry!
