Story
Did you know you can read Jesus's Sermon on the Mount in about eighteen minutes? Yet packed into this short talk are more life-changing and startlingly original teachings than anywhere else in Scripture. Drawing from decades of study, Dr. Robert Jeffress breaks down Jesus's most well-known (yet least-followed) teachings about happiness, faith, relationships, sex, reconciliation, prayer, money, and more. He shows how we often misunderstand and misapply these verses and unpacks exactly what Jesus was teaching us about our own hearts and minds.

Witch and wizard references? Not for me.
Reviewed: 08-09-24
The Bible is clear on God's stance against witchcraft. References to stories about witches and a wizard do not belong in this book, and I do not want to take direction from someone who teaches in that way. Be careful that the person you take direction from is actually aligned with what the Bible says.

Jessica Fletcher has had plenty to worry about over her storied career, both as a best-selling novelist and as a part-time sleuth. But she's never had any reason to doubt her longtime publisher and trusted friend, Lane Barfield. When mounting evidence of financial malfeasance leads to an FBI investigation of Lane, Jessica can't believe what she's reading. So when it appears that Barfield has committed suicide, Jessica takes on the task of clearing his name. Sure enough, Jessica turns up several inconsistencies in the case against Barfield, as well as signs he might have been murdered.

Horrid narration. Poor taste and poorly done.
Reviewed: 04-22-24
I would give the narration negative stars if I could. She does not sound the part, and when she does Harry's voice it is almost unbearable to listen to. Also, the cursing and disrespect toward God is not what I expect to hear in the Murder She Wrote series. I am not sure I will even finish this one. Poor taste and poorly done.

Story
Escape the enemy's deadly trap! The Bait of Satan exposes one of the most deceptive snares Satan uses to get believers out of the will of God - offense. Most people who are ensnared by the bait of Satan don’t even realize it. Don’t be fooled! You will encounter offense, and it’s up to you how it will affect your relationship with God. Your response will determine your future. If offense is handled correctly, you will become stronger rather than bitter. John Bevere shows you how to stay free from offense and escape the victim mentality.

Some good guidance here
Reviewed: 11-05-23
There is some solid and Biblical guidance here, but I don't know that I can support all of what's presented. When the author speaks about not giving information he had about a leader in the church... if God spoke to him and told him to keep quiet, then yes he absolutely should do that. But I do not know that God would always tell everyone to keep quiet about someone's wrongdoing that can harm others. We have to be sure God is instructing us in that way because otherwise, being a secret-keeper can amount to enabling the perpetrator to do more harm. It comes down to what God tells you, on a case by case basis. I am not sure that the example he gave about not staying at a hotel where he could have gotten more rest because he didn't want to offend someone, always applies either. Can we always take on responsibility for how someone else feels about our actions? Again, if it is what God says to you, then do it of course. But it seems like there are teachings in this book that would be dangerous to apply as rules across the board.

Her mood darkens, though, when a visitor from the past appears - Jonathan Hemingway, the father of her late fiance. His presence stirs up sad memories for Addie, but also has her fuming when Jonathan runs off for a lunchtime liaison with Teresa Lang.

Getting hard to find a good, clean cozy mystery
Reviewed: 05-04-22
I could have done without the butt swatting and overly excited descriptions of kisses and breath on necks and so forth. I also dislike the attempt at normalization of living together before marriage. To each his or her own, but I am so tired of having liberal views forced in my face and sex used to sell a book. Believe it or not, writers... some of us want a simple, clean cozy mystery. And if your writing is good and the narrator on point, you would sell books without using sex and liberal agendas to do it.

Be aware that if you listen to all the other titles in the series, you run into the occult. As a Christian who looks for clean, cozy mysteries, I also want them to be spiritually safe. I do not dabble in anything related to tarot cards, fortune tellers or other aspects of the occult. If you are like minded avoid this series.

The merry festivities are well underway in the quaint seaside village, and the halls of the posh Castleton Manor literary retreat are decked out in full Victorian décor. This year, the manor is hosting the Charles Dickens Society's annual gala, compete with parlor games and dramatic readings of A Christmas Carol, and culminating in a costume ball. Story
Who would imagine being friends with Eve - the woman who’s been held responsible for the fall of humanity (and cramps) for thousands of years? Certainly not Sarah Jakes Roberts. That is, not until Sarah discovered she is more like Eve than she cares to admit. Everyone faces trials, and everyone will mess up. But failure should not be the focus. Your focus should not be on who you were but rather the pursuit of who you can become.

It seems like it's getting harder to find clean cozy mysteries, which is very disappointing. I didn't want to hear the anti-Christian sentiments, nor did I want to hear the liberal chatter. I don't know why sexual orientation would "need" to come into a cozy mystery story line. I also don't know how the story developed because all of that happened in the first few minutes, so I moved on to a different book.
