Good grief! Performer waaay too proper in pronunciation!
Reviewed: 06-23-22
I love this book & everything M. Lackey has ever written. I will not be able to finish listening to the 1st book in this list. Why? The performer makes sure his diction is exactly proper. Makes a point of emphasizing every terminal consonant in every word. Totally takes away from the story. AllI can hear is this overly proper reading. I keep seeing the narrator with his nose stuck in the air at everyone else’s manner of talking. Normal people do NOT talk like this!! Very poor performance in my opinion. It’s a shame. Misty Lackey’s (& hubby L Dixon) works deserve so much better. Hire Bronson Pinchot next. He’s the best I’ve heard. Check out his narration of The Chronicles of the Cheysuli series by Jennifer Roberson. AMAZING! PLEASE PLEASE - fire this narrator & bring in someone who can narrate as people speak. & fire the director who supposedly approved this mess.

Story
For years, the Trader cities valiantly battled their enemies, the Chalcedeans. But they could not have staved off invasion without the powerful dragon, Tintaglia. In return, the Traders promised to help her serpents migrate up the Rain Wild River after a long exile at sea - to find a safe haven and, Tintaglia hopes, to restore her species. But too much time has passed, and the newly hatched dragons are damaged and weak, and many die.

Great story - don’t like the narrator
Reviewed: 07-10-21
I love all of R Hobb’s books. The narrator of Dragon Keeper is not my fav. Too precise & she drops the end of each sentence, inflection wise. Hard to describe except that the cadence was too slow, too proper & she lowers the pitch at the end of each sentence. Hard to listen to. I wish they’d chose a different narrator.

Nobody does contemporary fantasy than Anne Bishop
Reviewed: 02-18-20
Anne Bishop takes atypical themes and then spins them 180 so they’re never seen with the same eyes. To say she is original is the understatement of the century. I’ve read everything she’s written & loved them all but my favorites by far are those of the Blood. My only complaint? She can’t written them as fast as I can read and listen to them! Plz, please give her more tales of the Blood Anne!

One of my favorite trilogies ever brought to life!
Reviewed: 01-07-20
Anne Bishop has a talent for taking societal “norms” & turning them inside out, upside down & every “witch” way but loose. There isn’t an author who comes even close to her unique style. Hearing these beloved characters brought to life has given me many hours of joy & turned the dreaded 3 hr round trip commute to work into something I look forward to instead of dread. Ride my bike? With this trilogy loaded on my phone? You betcha - I’m ready! If you’ve read the series & liked it you’ll like the audible version. If you haven’t read it - no worries. You’ll enjoy it for the 1st time!
