Story
First published in 1979, The White Album records indelibly the upheavals and aftermaths of the 1960s. Examining key events, figures, and trends of the era - including Charles Manson, the Black Panthers, and the shopping mall - through the lens of her own spiritual confusion, Joan Didion helped to define mass culture as we now understand it. Written with a commanding sureness of tone and linguistic precision, The White Album is a central example of American reportage and a classic of American autobiography.

Honest and at times shrill in her critic of feminists
Reviewed: 06-26-23
Didion suffered from a fear of being considered stupid because of her sex. She uses erudite ( rarified) language to dispel any such judgement. She was a tireless name dropper. After I read her bio. II Wikipedia , I forgave her. I share many of her opinions .But I wouldn’t vilify the many that she dod. However, the latter part of the book is a fascinating description of her early life. She persuaded me to analyze this book more closely, and perhaps use its comments to assist me in my as yet unrealized efforts to write.

Why we think it’s a great listen: You thought he was a stodgy scientist with funny hair, but Isaacson and Hermann reveal an eloquent, intense, and selfless human being who not only shaped science with his theories, but politics and world events in the 20th century as well. Based on the newly released personal letters of Albert Einstein, Walter Isaacson explores how an imaginative, impertinent patent clerk became the mind reader of the creator of the cosmos.

Story
Many of us feel trapped in a grind of constant change: rolling news cycles, the chatter of social media, our families split along partisan lines. We feel fearful and tired, on edge in our bodies, not quite knowing what has us perpetually depleted. For Katherine May, this low hum of fatigue and anxiety made her wonder what she was missing. Could there be a different way to relate to the world, one that would allow her to feel more rested and at ease, even as seismic changes unfold on the planet?

Amazing to learn that members of Congress responsible for the negotiations actually thought a default was worth
exploring for political reasons. That they thought it wouldn’t have been as catastrophic as any finance specialist appreciates.

Dearest Natalie Goldberg,
I adore this book. I will recommend it to my son, and maybe my daughters too! I certainly recommend it to Audible listens and those who physically read the hard copy. I now have both. I particularly appreciated your saying always to be friends with your writing practice. Beautiful...
I’m 72 years old. At various times in my life someone has suggested I write. I never took them seriously because I didn’t think I had anything to say. Some told me I was a terrible writer. I believed them.
A history major. I wanted to learn and participate in life as a mother.
Seven years ago a dramatic event occurred for me. It has consumed my mind ever since and suddenly; I want to write.
Your book is a great inspiration. For years I’ve written in “ journal form“ so I can find the pieces on my computer. I realize there is great benefit from writing long hand, but I’ve rarely done so.
Thank you to your 35-year-old and 50-year-old selves. I will continue to write and maybe with the grace of Providence and my own determination, others may read my thoughts someday. Bless you. Namaste!
