Story
On her 18th birthday, Princess Evelayn of Eadrolan, the Light Kingdom, can finally access the full range of her magical powers. The light looks brighter, the air is sharper, and the energy she can draw when fighting feels almost limitless. But while her mother, the queen, remains busy at the war front, in the Dark Kingdom of Dorjhalon the corrupt king is plotting. King Bain wants control of both kingdoms, and his plan will fling Evelayn into the throne much sooner than she expected.

My new favorite series

Swan Lake has always been one of my favorite stories since I was a little girl. Everyone has those certain stories that have just stuck with them their whole lives, and for me, Swan Lake is one of them. When I read the description of this book, I was excited to listen to it, wondering how Sara B. Larson would put her own spin on a much beloved story. This was just gorgeous. I loved every minute, and Amy Shiels’ performance made it all the more enjoyable. The characters were well thought out and realized, the setting was positively stunning, and it had such a beautiful feeling of old magic and fairytales. Definitely one of my new favorite books!

As she works to heal his wound, she begins to understand emotions she’s never felt before and wonders if he feels the same.

Had potential...with a different narrator
Reviewed: 04-10-17
I read this book, and all the books in the series, and I loved them all; I have loved reading each and every one of Melanie Dickerson's books, in each series. However, I was very disappointed by the narrator. Her voice itself was okay in general, but she used almost no different voices or tones to differentiate between characters. Switching voices for each character is kind of the point of narration, in my opinion. Not to be mean or disrespectful to Jude Mason, but I wish they had maybe used someone like Cassandra Campbell or Julia Whelan, both of whom do an amazing job at giving each character a unique voice.
