Story
Our current definition of “productivity” is broken. It pushes us to treat busyness as a proxy for useful effort, leading to impossibly lengthy task lists and ceaseless meetings. We’re overwhelmed by all we have to do and on the edge of burnout, left to decide between giving into soul-sapping hustle culture or rejecting ambition altogether. But are these really our only choices?

Story
The rise to global predominance of Western civilization is the single most important historical phenomenon of the past five hundred years. All over the world, an astonishing proportion of people now work for Western-style companies, study at Western-style universities, vote for Western-style governments, take Western medicines, wear Western clothes, and even work Western hours. Yet six hundred years ago the petty kingdoms of Western Europe seemed unlikely to achieve much more than perpetual internecine warfare. It was Ming China or Ottoman Turkey that had the look of world civilizations.

This audio delivers a powerful message. The portions narrated by the author were enjoyable
, although it would have been even better with a professional narration But It is greatly hindered by the frequent use of horrible narrators with preposterous accents. At points, it was quite literally unlistenable

Story
Keith Foskett was the definition of restless. Drifting aimlessly, he knew a piece was missing from his life. But when a stranger in a Greek bar tells him about a world-famous pilgrim’s trail, the chance encounter sets Foskett’s life in a new 1,000-mile direction. On El Camino de Santiago, the wanderer copes with extreme temperatures, fake faith healers, and insatiable kleptomaniacs. Threatened with arrest for "not sleeping" and suffering with excruciating blisters, Foskett pushes himself to new limits. Can he find what he’s looking for and make it to the other side?

Zero Self-Awareness
Reviewed: 05-05-23
Wow, I learned almost nothing at all about walking the Camino. I did learn a lot about how I plan to NEVER behave. Initially, I thought the author was being humorous. But as you continue (and I stuck with it to the bitter end), you realize you're dealing with the most inconsiderate, un-self-aware person imaginable.
He is appalled -- appalled, I tell you -- that low-cost accommodations created expressly for pilgrims on a spiritual journey are unwilling to adapt to his schedule of late-night bar hopping. The low point is when someone in a salon cuts his hair and says, "No charge for pilgrims" and he walks off without tipping her.
I have no idea how this has 5-star reviews.

This is, hands-down, one of the best Audible books I've ever purchased. Given that I've downloaded 173 books, that's saying something.
Absolutely fascinating topics, brilliantly written and wonderfully narrated. This is a winner in every way! And I'm not even Jewish!

Story
Judaism is more than a religion; it is a civilization, including a people, a language, unique laws, a system of ethics, customs, a homeland, and a theology. Jews worship one God and obey a wide-ranging and vigorous moral law centered around the Torah, God's teaching or instruction. Jewish sacred literature preserves the ancient oral tradition through the Hebrew Bible and other writings.

This was an interesting introduction to Judaism and I enjoyed Ben Kingsley's narration. But then there was a 'company of dramatists' who randomly appeared. All of them delivered their lines in such melodramatic fashion that it was almost impossible to listen.

Story
Greg Donahue’s The Minuteman, tells the story of one of Newark’s native sons; ex-prizefighter and longtime Zwillman enforcer Sidney Abramowitz, a.k.a. Nat Arno, who took over leadership of the Minutemen in 1934 and made it his personal business to put an end to what he saw as the Bund’s “anti-American” activities. For six years, Arno and his crew of vigilantes battled Newark’s Nazis at every turn. The Minuteman is a story of the ethics of violence in the face of fascism; a forgotten legacy that is as relevant now as it was nearly a hundred years ago.

Story
In 10 lectures, award-winning historian Patrick N. Allitt transports listeners to England in the 1840s and 1850s. During those two decades, Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, became one of the most influential people in the country and remains a figure of fascination even today. In fact, the British royal family as we know it wouldn't exist without the private and public actions of this detached, impartial, and upright political figure.
