David Murrow's groundbreaking new book reveals why men are the world's largest unreached people group. With eye-opening research and a persuasive grasp on the facts, Murrow explains the problem and offers hope and encouragement to women, pastors, and men. Why Men Hate Going to Church does not call men back to the church - it calls the church back to men.

the themes of this book resonate across culture
Reviewed: 01-02-25
The point of this book that when you neglect and diminish men they lose interest is just as applicable to the entertainment industry as it is to Church.
See Disney they are largely a "Girl" Brand so in order to rectify that they bought "boy" brands Star Wars and Marvel and have proceeded to make them "girl" brands and now they are wondering why "toxic" fans don't like those brands anymore... they neglected and diminished their core audience.
this book is an important cultural commentary that needs to be read with an open mind and we need to Look to what Jesus did and seek to emulate.

felt like a shipping fanfic at times
Reviewed: 12-29-24
the shipping of Hoyd and Jasnah was totally unnecessary as well as that of Renarin and Relane (what is this stormin' h0moxenoerotica??) along with other ham-fisted dei add ins that felt out of place and forced… (for one these used to be safe for early reader kids ie 11 and up now not so much)
i also appreciate that these stories have stuck with cosmere curses... when curses from our universe are used it breaks the illusion (it feels like the fourth wall breaking like someone winking at the camera which works in certain types of stories but not this universe thus far) it degrades the charm of the cosmere …
overall i enjoyed most of it this just was pushed off by the forced heavy handed dei shipping which left a bad taste in my mouth the more i reflect on this story the more I am about to make this the last cosmere book i ever listen to it was fun while it lasted but if the "suck fairy" is going to actively insert "the message" going forward I am not interested... please Brandon keep this a timeless tale and not a product of it's time.

Story
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

But now that he’s in the thick of it, trying to get through combat training harder than anything he could have imagined, he knows everyone in his unit is one bad move away from buying the farm in the interstellar war the Terran Federation is waging against the Arachnids. Because everyone in the Mobile Infantry fights. And if the training doesn’t kill you, the Bugs are more than ready to finish the job.

don’t expect this to be the movie. The movie decided to to take a different tone. It’s good in its own right but is somewhat subversive of the tone of the book. I kinda wanna have a version of the history and moral philosophy textbook from this universe.

Story
Britain's Special Air Service - or SAS - was the brainchild of David Stirling, a young, gadabout aristocrat whose aimlessness in early life belied a remarkable strategic mind. Where most of his colleagues looked at a battlefield map of World War II's African theater and saw a protracted struggle with Rommel's desert forces, Stirling saw an opportunity: Given a small number of elite, well-trained men, he could parachute behind enemy lines and sabotage their airplanes and war matériel.

I would love to see this as a series on Prime...
Reviewed: 01-12-22
The whole time listening to this it felt like it could be developed as a series to rival band of brothers but has potential for it to have comedic moments. When the book discussed the desert scouts many of whom were from New Zealand all I could Imagine is taika waititi, brit or jemaine giving a tour of the desert.
The episodic nature of the stories would lend itself to a miniseries and the story could cover the whole war and its changing theaters from africa to italy and europe.
The inception of the SAS has the beginnings of a heist movie with a strong cast of unique personalities ill fitted to standard warfighting units exceptional at a new kind of warfare.
also I credit this book for introducing me to the French paratroopers prayer it's a beautiful tribute to the warrior who loves God.

A new classic satirical work à la GulliversTravels
Reviewed: 12-03-21
To me the many ringdoms and intricacies of the tower what came to mind was Gulliver's Travels. (not that this story in any way resembles those travels or that story)
As Senlin travels through and encounters the many intricacies of the tower I found the allegorical/satirical comparisons to the real world thought provoking and insightful.
In my mind this series would make for a great book for teenagers seeking an interesting series for those creative book reports if those are still a thing, it covers heavy subjects without being heavy handed the language is clean without being childish or overly prudish. And adults seeking an escape that on it's surface is a whimsical tale that contains some nuggets of societal introspection worth thinking about.
I have my gripes with the ending and one of the characters but all and all the author crafted an ending that made me think so if that was the goal than mission accomplished whether or not I am happy with the choice that character made.
All in all I highly recommend this series which I would call a steam punk era science fiction fantasy allegorical satire.

I really like Andy Weir but this book didn't do it for me I never felt like the main character was ever in peril even when he was it just felt like oh and he'll come up with something amazing to fix whatever problem.
All I could think as the book came to an end was Cane Toads and how the law of unintended consequences was not fully fleshed or addressed in this story.
I felt like the whole story was more of an example of how massive groupthink and hubris can lead us down roads to Abilene(see Abilene paradox) maybe if this was a cautionary tale like Jurassic park but i could get behind this one but it just didn't do it for me.

Story
Whether pondering black holes or predicting discoveries at CERN, physicists believe the best theories are beautiful, natural, and elegant, and this standard separates popular theories from disposable ones. This is why, Sabine Hossenfelder argues, we have not seen a major breakthrough in the foundations of physics for more than four decades. The belief in beauty has become so dogmatic that it now conflicts with scientific objectivity: Observation has been unable to confirm mindboggling theories, like supersymmetry or grand unification, invented by physicists based on aesthetic criteria.
