like the second book in the series this one has a rough start and never entirely gets on track, it's hard when the power creep shows and it becomes hard to make scenes make sense :)
the spice though??
it makes ghost peppers look soft...
damn...
again, the narration elevated this book to heights it could never have gone on its own

Story
The King is dead, which makes Gray the true King. But his brother has set himself up on the throne, taking Gray's rightful place. Gray is a wanted criminal throughout the kingdom, so taking the throne back will require some creative thinking and a whole lot of help. Thank the gods that the latter isn't in short supply. After bonding with female entities known to the outside world as shades, he has been granted powers beyond those of mortal men. Increased speed, the ability to create duplicates of himself, as well as a magical sword crafted from godmetal—just to name a few.

Story
Life on the Waves isn't easy. Especially if you're a pickpocket with no education, no prospects, and no future. For Chase and his crew of low-lives, there is one real option. If they want a path out of poverty, they will have to unlock access to the magical card system that will change their lives for the better. Of course, nothing's free in life. And nobody higher up the chain is going to give them a hand up. But what they might lack in education, riches, and, let's face it, hygiene, they have in determination.

So love the characters in this series, they really feel alive and like people.
the story is great as the first one and keeps the pace nicely while revealing more of the world to us.
The SBT crew does excellent work as always, this would not be what it is without them

The start is a bit rough as there is a time gap and little of it is explained at first, but as soon as the book hits it's stride, this is a friggen' amazing book, possibly better than the first one...
JTJ and crew truly brings the book to life, their work is amazing and makes the book beyond what it would have been otherwise

He's executing great transfers and hired a literal old hand for his brand-new women's team. What could go wrong?

Out-of-work Latin teacher and borderline alcoholic Austin DeSantis is determined to spend his final days in the arms of a prostitute—that is if the aliens don’t exterminate humanity first. Great story with several unexpected twists. the characters are great too...
however it does become a little preachy at times, but it fits within the context of the story so it's not too much...
Jeff is,as always, amazing in the lead role and the rest spices up the story nicely

Story
Try as he might, Fischer still can't catch a break. Tropica's forces have just perpetrated the fantasyland equivalent of crashing the king's party, kicking over the punch bowl, and making a series of rude gestures on their way out. Unfortunately, they're about to learn firsthand that when you take a bully down to the mat, it's best to make sure they don't get back up. Because their enemies are unearthing long-forgotten powers, and if those dabbling in the resulting destructive chi succeed, they could become even more annoying than the time Corporal Claws hid all of Fischer's pants.
