This is a solid edition to the Lennox series. There weren’t any earthshaking surprises, but there is a nice tease for the next book. Great narration as always with Sam.

Sand, salt, iron, copper, oil, and lithium. These fundamental materials have created empires, razed civilizations, and fed our ingenuity and greed for thousands of years. Without them, our modern world would not exist, and the battle to control them will determine our future. In Material World, Ed Conway embarks on an epic journey across continents, cultures, and epochs to reveal the underpinnings of modern life on Earth—traveling from the sweltering depths of the deepest mine in Europe to spotless silicon chip factories in Taiwan to the eerie green pools where lithium originates.

It’s really amazing how interconnected we are by virtue of a few simple elements. The author does a good job reading his work and I thought the content flows very well.

I adore these books - love the characters, the writing style, and the narration. That said, I’ve grown tired of Lennox being so bad with money plotline. He’s married to a smart woman, let her manage the funds, and IDK, maybe figure out how to generate an income rather than having just the right windfall drop into their laps.

On May 18, 1860, William H. Seward, Salmon P. Chase, Edward Bates, and Abraham Lincoln waited in their hometowns for the results from the Republican National Convention in Chicago. When Lincoln emerged as the victor, his rivals were dismayed and angry. Throughout the turbulent 1850s, each had energetically sought the presidency as the conflict over slavery was leading inexorably to secession and civil war.

For over 500 years, history has judged that they were murdered on the orders of their uncle Richard III. Following years of intensive research in UK, American and European archives, astonishing new archival discoveries have been uncovered that change what we know about the fate of the Princes in the Tower.

I heard about this project via the Gone Medieval podcast and my interest was piqued. The story itself is compelling and I enjoyed listening to it - but what really pulled me in is the no stone unturned research - bravo. Long live Richard III.

Crippled by abdominal pain, Junger was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Once there, he began slipping away. As blackness encroached, he was visited by his dead father, inviting Junger to join him.

This book starts slowly, but gains a cadence that makes it easy to listen to. It’s so interesting to hear a personal story told dispassionately - or seemingly so. It’s not until the end that the author’s heart shines through. Well done, Mr. Junger, glad you made it.
