After about 30 years I finally got around to reading this. I feel a lot is lost in the voice acting which doesn't pause, making some of the most significant battle moments hard to digest. The end was fine (predictable) but felt a bit like a teenager's imagination of what a "perfect relationship" would be. Overall, I am glad to have knowledge of the background of the famed Elminster.. but could have probably got the same info from the Forgotten Realms Wiki. I probably will not continue the series.

Solid ending to the trikogy

Alias is back in this 3rd book of the trilogy that brings back the main storyline from the first book while introducing more about the background of Dragonbait's people.

Some unexpected surprises and subtle nods to interesting philosophical questions related to topics introduced in the first two books (Is it okay to date your ex's clone?)

First book is still the best of the series, but this one is worth the listen and makes me want to go back and read more past titles from the Forgotten Realms universe.

Fairly Good Followup

This is a fairly good followup to Azure Bonds, focusing on one of the books primary characters (Olive) and a minor character turned main character (Jiogi).

Alias is mentioned a few times, but this is as might have been expected, a continuation of the Finder Stone which ends up in Jiogi's hands at the end of the 1st book.

Significantly more slapstick and love story elements than the first. A bit less "adventure" but plenty of good D&D monsters to be battled.

There is further mystery introduced to the questions started in the first book which are not brought to a conclusion in this one. Enough so that I am interested in starting the third soon.

A Taco Bell 5-Star

If you are reading reviews on this book before you buy it, then I already know you are going to enjoy this book. It is a solid Forgotten Realms fantasy book with a an unfolding mystery surrounding a set of unique characters.

In addition to sword fights, magic spells, monsters, and the unfolding adventurer's tales, the book will immerse you in what it would be like to live in the Forgotten Realms as you overhear gossip, attend weddings, rub shoulders with the public, and catch glimpses of the thoughts of nobility and merchants.

It also has subtle nods to D&D campaign flavor as characters check for coin and magic items after encounters.

Just like a trip to Taco Bell, you know what you are getting. This book is not high class literature and it is unlikely to win prestigious awards... but if you're in the mood for a Bean Burrito, some Mexi-Fries, and a Baha Blast.. well, this will leave you satiated.

This was my introduction to classic Norse mythology, and I have learned I am not a fan of classic Norse mythology.

However, I am a fan of Neil Gaiman and I learned something.. so giving 4 instead of 3 stars.

Good Story Deeply Embedded im Forgotten Realms

This was an OK story by Salvatore. Not his best work, but it is deeply embedded in Forgotten Realms mythos, dipicting clerics and undead, wizards and imps, dwarves, druids, and monks... all centered around an ancient library. This focus on familiar themes and hearing the author's approach to the lore was enjoyable for me.

Unfortunately, I found unusual mistakes by an otherwise high quality performance to be distracting.

This includes:
* occasional strange pauses that place emphasis on the wrong words ("..it curved around her neck [pause] and shoulders.")
* missing pauses at "dinkas transitions", making it difficult to realize the setting or point of view has changed
* use of unusual pronunciation ("it was a culmination of his lived experiences" pronouncing lived with a hard i.)

These minor but unusual mistakes were a distraction and took away from the story flow and an otherwise strong performance by Bevine.

This is the first book of a trilogy. And while I did enjoy listening, I am not particularly motivated to listen to the continuation of the story.
