Story
For the last 100,000 years, we Sapiens have accumulated enormous power. But despite all our discoveries, inventions, and conquests, we now find ourselves in an existential crisis. The world is on the verge of ecological collapse. Misinformation abounds. And we are rushing headlong into the age of AI—a new information network that threatens to annihilate us. For all that we have accomplished, why are we so self-destructive? Nexus looks through the long lens of human history to consider how the flow of information has shaped us, and our world.

I hope the people that need to read this, read it! I think he puts together vogue argument about what should have been put in place regarding social media algorithms. The reforms that need to be put in place now. The threats of AI and why they are so different from anything we face before. And some suggestions as to how we may go about avoiding some of the more catastrophic outcomes.

Story
Stories of Your Life and Others presents characters who must confront sudden change-the inevitable rise of automatons or the appearance of aliens-while striving to maintain some sense of normalcy. In the amazing and much-lauded title story (the basis for the 2016 movie Arrival), a grieving mother copes with divorce and the death of her daughter by drawing on her knowledge of alien languages and non-linear memory recollection.

There are a few excellent stories in here such as the title story which was wonderful and worth the purchase for that alone. There’s also a few that are quite dull and the rest somewhere in the middle.

Reviewed: 02-07-19
If you are thinking of reading a book by Harari I would recommend Sapiens followed by Homo Deus, both wonderful. After them I am not sure this adds a great deal. It is a good read with many great ideas, I just felt that many of the messages are underscoring those from the previous books.

In this explosive new book, Sam Harris tears down the wall between scientific facts and human values, arguing that most people are simply mistaken about the relationship between morality and the rest of human knowledge. Harris urges us to think about morality in terms of human and animal well-being, viewing the experiences of conscious creatures as peaks and valleys on a "moral landscape".
