Story
The world’s greatest bodybuilder. The world’s highest-paid movie star. The leader of the world’s sixth-largest economy. That these are the same person sounds like the setup to a joke, but this is no joke. This is Arnold Schwarzenegger. And this did not happen by accident. Arnold’s stratospheric success happened as part of a process. As the result of clear vision, big thinking, hard work, direct communication, resilient problem-solving, open-minded curiosity, and a commitment to giving back. All of it guided by the one lesson Arnold’s father hammered into him above all: be useful.

I’ve always enjoyed watching Arnold’s movies, but this book opened up a window into who Arnold is as a person. I love his 7 points—every one of them. And I especially love how real, and humble, and human Arnold is. I love how he has stayed so grateful and down to earth. What a great role model he is. This is a GREAT BOOK that will change your life and perspective of what is truly important in life.

Story
For generations, everything has been getting faster, better, and cheaper. Finally, we reached the point that almost anything you could ever want could be sent to your home within days - even hours - of when you decided you wanted it. America made that happen, but now America has lost interest in keeping it going.

Essentialism is more than a time-management strategy or a productivity technique. It is a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not, so we can make the highest possible contribution toward the things that really matter.

Top 10

I’ve reads 100s of Business Mgmt, Sales, and Self Help type books. This one (and it’s companion Effortless) are in my Top 10 next to 7 Habits and Good to Great. These days I buy Kindle books. This is the only book I’ve ever bought the Kindle, the Audible, and the hard cover. Like the scriptures, I will refer to it over and over again to help remind me how to best utilize my most precious resources—my life and time. I highly recommend.

Story
As high achievers, we’ve been conditioned to believe that the path to success is paved with relentless work. That if we want to overachieve, we have to overexert, overthink, and overdo. That if we aren’t perpetually exhausted, we’re not doing enough. But lately, working hard is more exhausting than ever. And the more depleted we get, the more effort it takes to make progress. Stuck in an endless loop of “Zoom, eat, sleep, repeat”, we’re often working twice as hard to achieve half as much.

I love how Greg has encapsulated the true meaning of simplicity, meaning, and priority in life. Unlike nearly every other book I’ve ever read, I feel certain that I will be re-reading this one again and again to help regain perspective!
