great story, okay editing
Reviewed: 04-12-21
I loved the story, the only problem was the editing between the chapters. Like the chapter would end and just cut to the next chapter. Or there would be an extra long pause between the chapter end and the next beginning.
Other than that it's great! one of my go-to books

Story
Across seven tales, Haruki Murakami brings his powers of observation to bear on the lives of men who, in their own ways, find themselves alone. Here are lovesick doctors, students, ex-boyfriends, actors, bartenders, and even Kafka’s Gregor Samsa, brought together to tell stories that speak to us all. In Men Without Women, Murakami has crafted another contemporary classic, marked by the same wry humor and pathos that have defined his entire body of work.

Meh

The narrator did an excellent job. I enjoyed listening to his voice.
The stories themselves were meh. The author's portrayal of men and women is fairly disheartening, and not one I subscribe to.

When listening carefully and attentively, you can learn a great deal. Character descriptions are picturesque and humorous. The mind's eye envisions the settings. Humor is the aim in most of the tellings. I grinned and laughed all through the presentation. I Looked forward to the next story and hated to be interrupted.

Story
Mama believed the woman who dies with the most fabric scraps wins. She saved scraps from odd sewing jobs for neighbors. She saved buttons from old winter coats and birthday dresses. Mama had a button from Daddy's first uniform and another from Grandma's cloth coat, and every button in the box came with a story. In her trademark Texas twang, award-winning storyteller Barbara McBride-Smith recounts stories from her family that speak to all of us.

This storyteller brought laughter and tears to my day. I hope to share this rendition with my children and grandchildren.

also the full description of how the code was developed was amazing! they used multiple words for the same alphabet letter, so that repeated letters in a word like "need" wouldn't give ant hints on what words were which letter.
