Story
Sea Isle was supposed to be the fresh start Dr. Emilia McRoy dreamed of. Far from the busy emergency room across the Atlantic in Seattle, she hoped to settle down and begin this new chapter as a small-town doctor to the quirky residents who immediately welcomed her. When she stumbles across a dead body, she starts to think that she may not be as Scot free of the drama and intrigue as she initially thought.

This was a good mystery, charming setting, lovable characters. Immediately sucked in, this story never loses momentum. One problem, it was done too soon.

Great characters with all the human flaws that make them relatable humans. The story was solid good mystery without extraneous stuff thrown in for filler. That made me glued to it.

So when she stumbles upon a dead body in the alley behind the bar - the same spot where her own father was shot eight months earlier - she can tell right away there's something fishy in the air. The lead detective thinks there's a link between the two deaths, and he'll need Mack's help to sniff out the murderer. But when all the evidence points to her as the most likely culprit, it could be an early last call for Mack.

The relationship has turned strangely neurotic
Reviewed: 10-26-24
The supposedly strong woman who has survived so much has suddenly turned into a whiny cry baby and the boyfriend seems to need to play to that. There are far too many scenes where Jenna turns into a sobbing mess. Two might have been OK but I lost count and found it annoying filler. I now question if I want to consider following this series if it continues a weak, wimpy cry baby rather than a strong protagonist interested in what goes on around her.

Story
Renée Ballard and the LAPD’s Open-Unsolved Unit get a hot shot DNA connection between a recently arrested man and a serial rapist and murderer who went quiet twenty years ago. The arrested man is only twenty-four, so the genetic link must be familial: His father was the Pillowcase Rapist, responsible for a five-year reign of terror in the city of angels. But when Ballard and her team move in on their suspect, they encounter a baffling web of secrets and legal hurdles. Meanwhile, Ballard’s badge, gun, and ID are stolen.

Great story - Not enough Bosch
Reviewed: 10-20-24
This is, true to Connelly, super well written, wonderfully narrated and certainly a gripping story. I just didn’t get enough Bosch. He was too small an aside. We got no hit on what was happening with him personally - no “catching up” with his life like we did with Ballard. For me, a die hard Bosch fan, I was disappointed with this. If I disconnected with my personal wishes to catch up with Bosch, I must say the story was, as is always true of Connelly, unique, fascinating and over too soon. The development of the relationship of Renee Ballard and Maddie Bosch is, of course interesting. The narration was top notch and I look forward to the next book. I have read (and also listened to) every Connelly novel and think he is the best mystery writer around. He never throws in what I call “gratuitous filler.” That makes his books so far above so many of today’s authors. Thank you Michael Connelly for the quality I look forward to. Please stay healthy and keep producing the books that we all wait anxiously for.

Story
I’m Kat Smith, a Secret Service agent turned postmaster sleuth, assigned to cover a cozy small town on Maui, Hawaii, called Ohia. Things have been nuts since I got here; I’ve been dealing with murder, mayhem, and a cozy little mystery since I moved into a shack near the beach and was adopted by a stray cat named Tiki who has a nose for dead bodies. Now it’s “Hawaii time” to solve another murder mystery in paradise with new friends Opal, Artie, the Red Hat Society ladies, and a hot pilot named Mr. K. Assisting us are tech whiz Sophie Smithson and Detectives Lei and Pono of the Maui...

On and on.
It was also annoying on this narration that when the book called for some sort of emotion or emphasis, there was none. Monotone all the way through. It was probably an OK story but, without any inflections, boring

“This series is my new addiction!”~ Reviewer Nothing's ever as it seems in Ohia, Maui, especially for me, Kat Smith. I'm Secret Service, not Postal Service, stuck in the back end of paradise and making the best of it when the grasping plans of a developer threaten to take out our small town. Even the evil post office cat, Tiki, is outraged by the hostile takeover of our “small island.” Meanwhile, someone's out there whacking the bad guys. Literally. I have to find a way to help, or I might lose the place and people I'm coming to love. "If you like the MIss Fortune series, you'll ...

Juvenile - melodramatic - racist - offensive
Reviewed: 09-20-24
I thought it was supposed to be a mystery. Instead it was adolescent political propaganda. Almost ten hours of a goodie two shoes being targeted for being a holier than thou pro life racist republican who thinks she’s actually Christian. I had to wonder if this author is an ignorant 90 year old that can’t come forward in time. CA bashing. Good grief. Is this 1948 or 1872?
I was offended.
