Story
Possibly the darkest and most shocking six scary short stories yet ever created from bestselling author Stephen R. King. An instinct of passion and disrespect for decency and humanity fill this volume of life experiences we mostly keep in the back of our conscience, never wanting to bring to the forefront. Its truly sick!

A solid mix of supernatural stories that I’m sure I would have enjoyed more if that robotic AI voice hasn’t sucked the soul out of the book.

Story
Pain, horror, fear - these are the things that have comprised best-selling novelist Lance Metzger's life. His childhood remains a riddled wasteland of abuse by a sadistic father and abandonment by an apathetic mother. In turn his only refuge became his writing. When Lance loses his ability to write and becomes haunted by a nightmare that he'd thought was buried, he is drawn inexplicably to a house on the shores of Lake Superior, where he finds his muse once again - but something is waiting for him when he arrives.

This book gave me anxiety. If you can get past the DV and child abuse; you will be rewarded with what I found to be a supernatural masterpiece. Lots of body horror & super descriptive writing. The narrator was great. No over the top voice acting nonsense. Looking forward to more from this author & narrator.

Story
Suffer the Children presents a terrifying tale of apocalyptic fiction, as listeners are introduced to Herod's Syndrome, a devastating illness that suddenly and swiftly kills all young children across the globe. Soon, they return from the grave, and ask for blood. And with blood, they stop being dead. They continue to remain the children they once were, but only for a short time, as they need more blood to live. The average human body holds 10 pints of blood, so the inevitable question for parents everywhere becomes: How far would you go to bring your child back?

I’ve been reading horror books my whole life. This is officially in my top 3 greatest of all time. Sooo well written & performed. As a parent, this story traumatized me. I was screaming at the end. Listened in one day bc I couldn’t get enough. On my way to buy a copy for my library.

I can’t believe I finished this…
Reviewed: 05-06-23
Honestly I only kept listening for the voice actor, but even her versatile talent couldn’t save this train wreck of a story. I hated every single character. They were all one dimensional and I struggled to care about what happened to them. The world building was promising until I heard terminology used. It took me so far out of the story that I can’t believe a publisher didn’t help the Australian author make even simple changes- like using imperial as opposed to metric system. Instead I spent most of the story confused about where the story takes place. Lastly the “great ending” was predictable with only a mild twist. When the book ended- I only felt relief that my ordeal was over.

Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.
