Story
Stealing from a mage was both the best and worst thing I had ever done. After being caught, I was named a criminal and sent to a prison known as the Jade Bastion. Located at the Edge of the World, this prison carries a secret. Those inmates who have magical abilities are trained in the most powerful magic known to the empire: battle magic. To survive, I will need to discover a secret I didn't know I possessed. I can become more powerful through bonding with the other beautiful, magically inclined inmates.

Thought I bought high fantasy novel not some 40yo virgins wet dream recounting.
Reviewed: 08-30-24
Title says it all- OF COURSE the main char has a giant D, every girl has a prefect body, & bangs him in detail. OF COURSE all the girls just LOVE oral with no reciprocation, have no problem with him banging every other chick- but will, of course, be fully faithful themselves to ONLY him, and thinks the main char D is "The most beautiful thing they've seen"... yaaa said no woman EVER. Keep dreaming dude. Couple chap in you'll see- this isn't high literary fantasy classification, it's some lonely 40 y.o. virgin gamer living in mommy's basement's wet dream fantasy with a little magic and conflict thrown in. I'm no prude, but these scenes are frankly just frequent & explicit to the point of being obnoxious. If you can get past that, the rest of the ACTUAL story line is decent and the voice acting is superb.

Great story line, but Gender neut junk distractin
Reviewed: 12-28-22
As with all these story lines with its associated series, it's masterfully done with unique magic and thrilling sub plots. The only reason I give it 4 stars overall is the gender neutral pronoun junk is a bit ridiculous and very distracting- especially as an audio book. You've got 6 main characters all fighting in a scene that's already complex, but then you have ONE of the characters that for some reason is gender neutral so the author is referring to them a "they, them, their" and your trying to figure out if "their" action is the team or the one lone random gender neutral character... definitely takes away from the plot your trying to follow. I mean, come on, this isn't politics or some crazy situation that calls for being politically correct where you have to worry about offending someone. It's your damn character- assign it a gender for ease of use and move on. Of all its associated series, this is the first book that presents this ridiculousness. Author, please go back to your normal writing style, I don't know who your trying to impress by showing them you have no gender label bias, but it's not working for you and only taking away from a masterfully written story line.

Just Don't, you'll be sorry, read below
Reviewed: 12-06-22
First and foremost, I've never EVER left a bad review and I have read hundreds of titles. This series is bad enough for me to break that. Secondly, since I spent $200 on the whole series and gave it a fighting chance, start to finish, I'm entitled to my opinion and hope I can warn someone from making my mistake. I try to be fair and respect every authors time, energy, emotional investment, and literary style- this one.. I'm sorry, I have to speak up. It's annoyingly inconsistent and some things don't make sense. For instance, it's set in a fantasy world, not earth, and in some time frame of magic and swords- so how did he "spin on a dime". What's a modern American currency reference doing in this setting? The champion knight (on his wedding day) was stabbed once through the chest by an assassin as his bride to be watched before the assassin fled; literally opening sentence of next book something to the effect of Alistair stared in horror at her beloved "riddled with holes"... um I thought he was stabbed once, where did we suddenly get "riddled with holes"? Does the author even read what they write? How did the editor, assuming there is one (and I have my doubts considering there's more flaws than I can list riddled throughout EVERY book), not catch this? Story line is pretty generic- bad guys always loose, good guys never die or if they do they always come back to life, every arrow and sword thrust always hits its mark perfectly the first time... it's just painful to read. Promise you I'm not being over critical- read about 2 books, if you must, and you'll see exactly what I mean. I don't expect every author to be a Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson, Robin Hobb, Brian D. Anderson, Terry Mancour, Kel Kade, Joe Abercrombie, or Mark Lawrence, but damn, give me something better than this for $200 please! It's like a middle schooler wrote it!
