Story
In this exquisite story of family, food, grief, and endurance, Michelle Zauner proves herself far more than a dazzling singer, songwriter, and guitarist. With humor and heart, she tells of growing up one of the few Asian-American kids at her school in Eugene, Oregon; of struggling with her mother's particular high expectations of her; of a painful adolescence; of treasured months spent in her grandmother's tiny apartment in Seoul, where she and her mother would bond, late at night, over heaping plates of food.

Nostalgic, heart wrenching and beautiful
Reviewed: 01-24-22
As someone who grew up in Eugene around the same time period as the author, I found a lot of the story to be very nostalgic. Having enjoyed exploring Asian cultures and cuisine, I found the story around all this to be absolutely lovely and I loved hearing about the memories attached to the different dishes.
This story is very much about grief and the process the author goes through in a very raw but meaningful way. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t catch any feels and may have teared up a bit while actually shopping in H Mart listening to it.. More than anything though, it really just made me feel like I wanted to give the author a big hug and be her friend. I hope that in writing this memoir she was able to help heal in her grief.

Narrator is WAY better!

What did you like best about this story?
The narrator didn't suck like the first book's narrator.
Any additional comments?
They must have listened to the reviews on the first Blinding Knife series, because this narrator is leaps and bounds better for this read than the previous. He fits the personality of the characters much better.
Can't wait for the next one! Hurry up Weeks!

What disappointed you about The Black Prism?
The narrator is not good. For the setting of the book; it doesn't work. He makes me want to watch Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
Would you be willing to try another one of Cristofer Jean’s performances?
Definitely not.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I really like Brent Weeks, but the narrator kills this book for me, and apparently a lot of other people.
Any additional comments?
Can I have my credit back?

Story
Generations of werewolves have been secretly residing in a secluded valley a stones throw from Grundy, Alaska. So when a snooping Outsider comes to Grundy to investigate rumors of lycanthropic shenanigans in the area, the valleys pack alpha, Maggie Graham, resolves to chase him away, even if doing so takes a quick bite on the butt. What a pity that researcher Nick Thatcher turns out to be so drool-worthy, and that his kisses make Maggie want to sit up and beg.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes and no. It was a great story, but over the top description of the sex scenes made me want to fast forward. I mean; I'm not against them, but at some points I found myself cringing and thinking
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The descriptiveness of the story was great, I love that in books. (aside from the sex scenes).
Have you listened to any of Amanda Ronconi’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Story
Since the introduction of dietary guidelines calling for reduced fat intake in the 1970s, a strange phenomenon has occurred: Americans have steadily, inexorably become heavier, less healthy, and more prone to diabetes than ever before. After putting more than two thousand of his at-risk patients on a wheat-free regimen and seeing extraordinary results, cardiologist William Davis has come to the disturbing conclusion that it is not fat, not sugar, not our sedentary lifestyle that is causing America’s obesity epidemic—it is wheat.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. It's disturbing, but incredibly interesting.
If you’ve listened to books by William Davis before, how does this one compare?
n/a
What about Tom Weiner’s performance did you like?
Enjoyable voice to listen to.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. I actually had to stop mid book and go to something else. There's so much information that I noticed my thoughts drifting elsewhere and not paying attention to the book.
Any additional comments?
This is an excellent yet disturbing book. But toward the end, I feel like the Dr may have gotten a little carried away toward the end of the book with the examples he posed. They seemed to be a little bit extreme cases, and may not connect with a majority of the readers.
Towards the end, I also felt that the disturbing aspect started to fall off and lose my attention. It's moving enough to make me want to stop my gluten consumption, but also take this information with a grain of salt.
