Fascinating look at deaf culture
Reviewed: 12-06-22
I enjoyed the author's exploration of deafness as seen thru the eyes of the main character. Tessa is also Native American, providing a sensitive look at a variety of different customs. The nasal quality of the narrator's voice was a bit distracting.

Story
Ellie Masters comes out of a coma to find herself the only inhabitant of an eerily empty moon station. She’s not on Earth any more; she’s not even in the right solar system. So when someone reaches out to her, tells her he’s her friend, she’s happy to believe it. The alternative is to be stuck alone with an enemy. Renn Sorvihn has been chasing a rogue Tecran ship for over a month. But when Renn follows the Tecran ship into an uncharted sector, and realizes the Tecran have been working their way to a secret moon base, he suddenly understands things are not as they seem.

I love the premise of each book where each human decides to make the best of her situation to become a valued member of a new culture on another world. They handle all situations with grace under fire. I particularly like the emphasis on music!

I have enjoyed every book in the Murderbot Diaries series greatly. The best part of these novels has been the exceptional narration provided by Kevin R Free. He gives such depth to the characters, especially Murderbot and ART.

When Murderbot discovers a dead body on Preservation Station, it knows it is going to have to assist station security to determine who the body is (was), how they were killed (that should be relatively straightforward, at least), and why (because apparently that matters to a lot of people - who knew?). Yes, the unthinkable is about to happen: Murderbot must voluntarily speak to humans! Again!

Story
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Twelve Slays of Christmas is a delightful story with interesting characters. I liked the premise of a tree farm where the owners created a series of games for the twelve days of Christmas. I particularly liked the relationship of the heroine and her parents. If you're looking for a book with a nice plot and an excellent narrator, try this one.
