Story
"One of the best acid tests of an introductory book...is that the text allows the reader to learn an important skill independent of the illustrations. Fly casting is very difficult to teach in person, and even more so in print, yet this book contains the best, the most interesting, and the most effective introduction to fly casting I have ever read."

Story
Originally published in 1994, this book was a fly-fishing phenomenon in the way Howell Raines' Fly Fishing Through the Mid-Life Crisis was. Taking his fishing hobby to near metaphysical levels, Ted Leeson tells about his passions: rivers, trout, and fly fishing. With wry humor and rare insight, he explores questions that engage most fishermen: What is it about rivers that draws us so irresistibly, and why does fly fishing seem such an aptly suited response?

The essence of fishing

Such an enjoyable book!
Put into words what I never could and have never heard before. Robertson is perfect for the telling and voices the thoughts of the author as if he wrote it himself.
In spite of the forward noting Ted Leeson didn’t write it as if he were an English teacher I found the grown up language a breath of fresh air not often heard in todays world. I greatly enjoyed the vocabulary and masterful art of words.

Caught in one feud too many, he's on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian - leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies. Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. My new favorite Narrator
Reviewed: 05-06-23
What a great combination of author and narrator, Steven Pacey is a master at this. After 48 books this is my highest score so far. I’m a little conservative with my 5-star ratings but this book serves it. I only held back one star on the story as it’s a fairly common general theme with hero’s and villains.
Bravo Abercrombie and Pacey!

In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

I’m not a big fan of first person books because the authors tend to ramble but I was pleasantly surprised the rambling wasn’t excessive here.
The steady stream of memorable references to the olden days was cool even though I was never much of a gamer I remember many of the games in arcades and bowling alleys.
I won’t be reading this again and I disagree with the glowing reviews and high ranking in the genre. Wheaton is excellent and made it all at lease enjoyable I felt like I got my money’s worth. ….moving on.

Story
Between his work on the 2014 Audible Audiobook of the Year, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel, and his performance of Classic Love Poems, narrator Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit, Hannibal) has quickly become a listener favorite. Now, in this defining performance of Charles Dickens' classic David Copperfield, Armitage lends his unique voice and interpretation, truly inhabiting each character and bringing real energy to the life of one of Dickens' most famous characters.

Story
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

It’s been a while since the series and this was just as enjoyable. It took a minute to appreciate the narrator but his voice is so customizable it’s sometimes difficult believe it’s the same person switching between characters. Really amazing job, perfect for the story.

Story
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

It seems that the basic storyline is familiar due to so many Star Trek versions but the characters are much more interesting. For me the best part was the narration which managed to keep me listening, and thinking about it when I wasn’t. A great first book for a series that has me hooked for at least starting the next.
