Story
As sole heir to the Bredahl Cookies and Cakes fortune, Casper led a comfortable, happy-go-lucky life. Some would say, a charmed life. Sure, there were challenges: relentless pressure to join the family business, and his unrequited feelings for former high school crush Raleigh Jackson. But yeah, a charmed existence, compared to life after being arrested for murder and spending nearly a year in Chippewa Falls County Jail, awaiting trial.

Incompetent agents of law enforcement. Forgetting a phone. Missing obvious clues. Inner monologues of creepy killers. Just about hated it all. One or two characters were appealing enough but I listen to a good mid of books thrillers included. It’s obvious maybe cursory research was done. I Do not recommend this title It’s not the narrators fault.

She believes that the world is a messy, uncontrollable place. The abduction of five-year-old Matthew Farraday provokes a national outcry and a desperate police hunt. And when his face is splashed over the newspapers, Frieda cannot ignore the coincidence: one of her patients has been having dreams in which he has a hunger for just such a child.

Too many characters slow plotting. A good book to fall asleep. The introduction of new characters was awkward. I had trouble keeping them straight. Also the reason for their existence was not easily discerned. I enjoyed parts of the book and this author gets rave reviews so maybe this is just a misfire in my brain but I won’t give this a relisten.

I thought the narrator was excellent. His ability to give life to dialog was what made this book so satisfactory. I dislike immensely when a swindler appears on the scene and despite warnings gets his mark in his crosshairs. Overall this story was very very humorous. The genius of capturing the fascinating thieves cant is one of my absolute fav part of Heyer’s books. The secondary characters are undoubtedly a strength. Recommend this book. Loved the plotting.

I think this version is magnificent. The story of an outcast and one of the leaders of the ton being thrown together is terrific. I especially loved the supporting cast. Young Mr Ord. Keatly and Edmond. My only complaint is that the narration of a 6 year old boy was done in a very deep voice. It was better done in the Naxos version.

I love the story but this narrator takes all the romance out of it. Jane Casey’s writing is brilliant. It deserves a better choice. The characters in these stories are very well written. The mystery is riveting. The character of Helena was drawn so vividly you almost feel sorry for her. The hapless Bruce. A figure of scorn then your mind is changed. I highly recommend Jane Casey. I do not recommend this narrator who sounds old and has a grating voice.
