Not a fan of celebrity narrators
Reviewed: 02-09-22
The overall story was great! Creepy but great! My only gripe is with the celebrity narrator. I guess I’ve been spoiled by others that really put an effort in the storytelling by really acting it out. They change their voice for each character. They really put emphasis on some of the words. But SOME of the celebrities I’ve heard don’t do that. Others do like Stephen Fry or Jim Dale, but here the good Doctor did fair. I will say the one time he DID change his voice freaked me the f*** out!!!

Loved it! Absolutely loved it! Once Melody starts having the flashbacks her story really takes off. Then when we learn the truth about her mother, my jaw was on the floor. And they way it all wrapped up in the end, some may say it was too cliche, but I thought it was perfect. Brilliant!!

Story
A best-selling author’s wife has been found dead in a gorgeous black evening gown, sitting at the head of an empty dining table. Her most chilling feature - her face is frozen in a ghastly smile. At first it seems as though a deranged psychopath is reenacting the gruesome murders from the Witch Hunt trilogy, best sellers written by the victim’s husband. But investigator Jessica Niemi soon realizes she’s not looking for a single killer but rather for dozens of believers in a sinister form of witchcraft who know her every move and are always one step ahead.

Great build up, not so great finish
Reviewed: 11-10-20
The story started off great. The opening scene reminded me of the beginning of the movie "Scream". A woman alone in a house with a killer outside. There is a "B story" throughout that I really couldn't figure out its meaning. The payoff isn't revealed until the end and even then I felt a bit underwhelmed. For me the ending sort of fizzled out. The mastermind behind it all had a huge monologue explaining everything but it just didn't drive it home for me. Maybe I was hoping for a bigger shoot-'em-up kind of ending. I will still recommend it to others and maybe they can understand the ending better than I could.

Before you listen to this one...
Reviewed: 09-07-20
you should really listen to the first book "Bluebird, Bluebird". The main story is about 25% of this book. The other 75% is dealing with the aftermath and fallout of the first one. The reason I started with this one is because my work is promoting it. One of the reviews said it can stand on it's own. I don't think so. I was so lost in the beginning and throughout most of the book, what with characters and relationships that were already in place I had no idea how they got there. If I had started with the first one I would have gotten a lot more enjoyment out of this one. Now that I know how it all ends I don't feel I have to listen to the first one.

A podcast that is a book
Reviewed: 09-03-20
This is nothing short of phenomenal. It starts off as a podcast complete with intro music and background noises. It sounded so real it kind of gave me the creeps a bit. But the twist is hearing Sadie's story from her point of view spaced out between the "podcast episodes". Very well done. One of the best productions I've listened to in quite some time, if not ever. Highly recommend.

I was so excited to hear Robie pop in like that. But the whole story was great. It was touching to hear about Decker's family when his BIL showed up.

Now THAT was fun!
Reviewed: 08-26-18
**Warning: there may be spoilers ahead**
After reading the brief synopsis, I decided to give it a try. A guy's been reincarnated thousands of times and STILL hasn't achieved perfection? He's in love with Death who goes by the name of Suzie. This sounded like fun...and I was right!! Milo's lives on Earth and his life in the afterlife are all intertwined in such an amazing way that I couldn't tell which story I wanted to follow. His relationship with Suzie was so beautiful that I couldn't wait for him to die on Earth so he could be with her again. But when they are separated from each other after Suzie quits, I stopped listening for a few days. I was so heartbroken they were torn apart that I didn't want to hear another word, because this way in my mind they are still there on the couch, reading the newspaper with their legs all twisted together. I almost started all over because I wanted to relive the good parts all over again. But I powered through and continued until the end. His last life, and her first, got really dark. I couldn't believe how horrible it was. I did like though, how she remembered who they were before he did. and I was really excited when he finally clicked on.
For me this was a nice change of pace from all the Baldacci and Meltzer I've been listening to. A breath of fresh air. I'm a visual thinker and I could see this as some sort of mini series on HBO or something like that. Or as a movie where I can see the last chapter like bumpers during the end credits. But it would have to end with the exact lines the book ended. That was... perfection.
