It's okay but it feels rushed.
Reviewed: 06-12-23
The pacing is very different than the Author's previous books in the series. A lot of the major plot points are rushed over and there are a lot of random plot devices shoved in there to make things happen. I get the impression the Author was just looking to wrap up the series and was willing to sacrifice proper story telling to make it happen. The performance was good though.

Story
Michael Talbot and his crew are sailing happily along aboard their nuclear aircraft carrier, The USS Jimmy Carter, building an ideal community, saving the planet from zombies and madmen in ports far and wide and...nope. That's some other book. The gang's out to sea alright, but under the worst possible meaning of the phrase.

Decent Writing, Good Performance, Unoriginal Story
Reviewed: 06-12-23
I enjoyed Sean Runnette's performance, and the writing is captivating but the story is unoriginal. Chris Philbrook just dropped a book where an outbreak takes place on the navy vessel everyone was living on and Nicholas Sansbury Smith has a running theme of it. Both of these Authors Mark Tufo is familiar with. As for the other side of the story taking place in the future it's more or less the same with a giant running chase taking place. I'm a little disappointed but I understand Mark Tufo is busy and maybe, doesn't have a lot of time to come up with something more original. If you're a fan of the series and not too deep into the genre other book series you should find this book very entertaining.

Story
A clock hangs over the head of every mortal. Counting down to the inescapable day that the Goddess of Death claims them. That is the way of the world. The natural cycle of mortals. The Gods, however, were said to live for forever. To exist so far outside of the natural laws of the universe that even their crimes can't be punished. But Knell Coba, at great cost, realizes this is nothing but another lie.

The MC is filled to the max with unfounded bravado
Reviewed: 04-19-23
The main character has the kind of arrogance that only major plot armor could carry through an entire book. Skipping past the overall completely uninspired dialogue; The book is filled with cringe comments that seem to only serve as the author's way of demonstrating just how cool and awesome their character is. That alone wouldn't be so bad but the amount of contradictory statements the MC makes in order to make us believe this drags on. The constant flaunting of I got secrets and this is why you're wrong between character interactions makes the MC into a massive Edge Lord. I honestly don't know why the Author would write a character like this; Was it just lazy writing or a deep need to finally live out all their angsty teenage desires via proxy of writer and listener? With that being said it's hard to properly judge the performance when the writing is this bad. If I ignore the bits of bad dialogue I can reasonably say the performance was decent. Hopefully, The narrator doesn't take the negative reviews too harshly. A turd is a turd no matter how much perfume you put on it. As for the author all I have to say is do better in the future. I'm severely disappointed with this book. I've read some of your other books and they're not nearly as bad. Good luck in your future endeavors.

I was there when the Gaia System was first born. The changes were more than anyone could have dreamed of: magical powers, a stronger body, and a call to adventure. It should have been a paradise; gifted the ability to combine spells with my Meta Bracer, I should have had an easy climb to the top. Maybe it was just me, Jory Mitchels, previously middle management in a start-up from hell. The change was supposed to make life better for the humans of Earth, but something went wrong.

It's a pretty standard LITRPG. For the most part it's okay. It's a little short and the pacing is a little off. Chapter 24 is extremely NSFW and is almost entirely unnecessary for the plot advancement. You should probably skip it if you're in mixed company. Props to the Narrators who really carried this book.

Good writing but voice narrator messed up a bit.
Reviewed: 07-10-21
The writing was good. Chris did a fantastic job as usual. However, The new voice narrator failed to maintain consistency with the characters voices from previous books. I honestly busted out laughing when I heard Abby's new valley girl accent. Thankfully it was just a couple sentences but wow. He also changed Hal's and Kevin's accent. He laid it on way too thick. As for Adrian's voice it's different but it's something I can get used to. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt but I'm not sure if I'd be able to continue listening to the series if they don't correct these mistakes on their next audiobook. The fact I rated this a 4 Star overall is really just a testament to the writing. I hope the next book gets a little better.
P.s. I think a lot of these favorable reviews are people trying to be nice because they want to support Chris but if they don't make improvements I don't think that'll hold up so well on their next book.
