Enjoyable but...

Loved the story and the performance was phenomenal! The mystery was on point and the characters were raw, real and relatable. My only issue was the dragging on and prolonging of vital parts with unnecessary words. Just say it or get to the point. In the end the story had a very satisfying ending.

Story
Nora knows she needs to move on. And forget about magic. She's back in graduate school, and her life is going surprisingly well. She doesn't need to think about other worlds, about enchantments and demons, or about magicians - even though she once aspired to become one herself. Most of all, she really should forget the magician Aruendiel, who shared the secrets of magic with her but fiercely guarded the deepest secrets of his heart. Then a chance encounter gives Nora the opportunity to slip between worlds again - and the next phase of her magical education begins.

Story
Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good. But as they say, all good things come to an end. One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed-and-breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job - deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there.

Now that's how you write a good story!

I'm delighted, excited and relieved that my once "favorite" author John Grisham got his Mojo back 😉. Love his style of writing and getting to the nitty gritty of a story. Grisham writes like he's holding a good conversation with you, and tells you the whole story. He writes so you feel what that character feels until it feels like you're in the story. Love it!!! Love these familiar characters like old friends just catching up! Thanks John Grisham for doing the darn thing writing this spectacular book🤗

It’s officially booty o’clock, I’m alone again in my kitchen choking down a slice of terrible chocolate cake…and I’m pretty sure I just got drunk texted by the man I have a ginormous crush on. I’ve been daydreaming about Eliot Hoffman’s dimples for two months, and even though I’m sure this was a mistake on his end, it doesn’t mean it’s not an opportunity on mine. It’s the middle of the night, and I just wanna talk to him. So I text him back.

SURPRISED
Reviewed: 05-26-21
I am utterly SURPRISED by this particular book. First after listening to it for only a few minutes I decided I did not like trying to decipher the British lingo and accent, so I tried to look for a way to return it. BLESSINGS that I was unable to find a way to do that because this turned into a soul searching, soul cleansing, thought provoking listen.
I LOVE the witty banter, "cheeky" play on words and most AWESOME realizations by each of the characters. Their insight into the experiences they've lived and are currently living is a jarring look into yourself and your life. This was to say the least an eye-opening , WONDERFUL, SATISFYING, GREAT, AMAZING, I can't say enough good things about this book - book.
The narrator is PERFECTION.
I'm unsure if my high opinion of this book is due to my reaching "middle age" or if this author and their inspiring writing just spoke to my soul...which ever, doesn't matter I'm THANKFUL for having listened.

No outrageous over-the-top arguments, fights or revenge moments. Just a real, normal, regular love story... refreshing!
