Story
From internationally recognized inquiry teacher and life coach Meadow DeVor comes the invitation you’ve been waiting for: Stop living as if worthiness is for someone better, thinner, smarter, or more successful, and start living with self-worth. (Yes! Self-worth is something you can learn and practice, and The Worthy Project tells you how.)

A loving call to see and claim our worth
Reviewed: 01-30-21
Wow. WHY is this not taught in schools?? In a culture where deficit is scrutinized, mistakes are reposted, and differences are shouted, The Worthy Project challenges us to take stock of how our behaviors reinforce Worthiness or Worthlessness through objective contemplation and from a place of love, not shame. Meadow vulnerably shares reflections on her journey, and she invites her listener to take action on small changes that make daily impacts on their sense of worth. I'm sharing this book with everyone I know. Everyone deserves to elevate their worth and live life in a way that reflects their worth. This book is life changing.

Story
Clara Lawson is torn from her life in an instant. Without warning, her home is invaded by armed men, and she finds herself separated from her beloved husband and daughters. The last thing her husband yells to her is to say nothing. In chapters that alternate between past and present, the novel slowly unpeels the layers of Clara's fractured life. We see her growing up, raised with her sisters by the stern Mama and Papa G, becoming a poised and educated young woman, falling desperately in love with the forbidden son of her adoptive parents.

Such Potential
Reviewed: 07-19-17
I enjoyed the unique perspectives in this story, but the main character is done a huge disservice. Even with an understanding of domestic violence and brainwashing, I couldn't buy Clara' s naivete. At first, yes. But flashback chapters reveal so much of her exposure to the nitty gritty (again.... and again... seriously, Again?!?) that to believe present-day Clara had no idea there was anything but happy family life is to diminish her intelligence. She was written as gifted & talented at school and a stand-out girl in her new family for Pete's sake, but she was evidently a Pollyanna Ostrich. Great potential, very interesting story line, but repetitive illustrations with a lackluster ending. Decently enjoyable.

Can. Not. Handle. The Narration
Reviewed: 03-25-16
How could the performance have been better?
I stuck with the story longer than I wanted to just out of curiosity for the storyline; however, I just couldn't handle the narration any longer. The original narrator for this series was so good that I got spoiled. I made it through the previous book with the narration change and hoped that this book would give relief, but the twangs and drawls seem over the top. The telephone conversation voices are grating. I finally googled spoilers so I could give my ears reprieve. :(

Story
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

the layers in this book are perfect to weave a suspenseful and meaningful narrative, but not so scattered and plentiful that they lose an auditory reader. I'm sad it's over.

Story
Richard Papen had never been to New England before his 19th year. Then he arrived at Hampeden College and quickly became seduced by the sweet, dark rhythms of campus life—in particular by an elite group of five students, Greek scholars, worldly, self-assured, and at first glance, highly unapproachable. Yet as Richard was accepted and drawn into their inner circle, he learned a terrifying secret that bound them to one another...a secret about an incident in the woods in the dead of night where an ancient rite was brough to brutal life...and lead to a gruesome death.

What would have made The Secret History better?
The female voice narrating so many male characters throughout the book was extremely annoying. I found myself thinking if every reference to a cigarette or a drink were removed from the book, it would probably only be three chapters long. I just felt the story was drug out way to long with so many references to college students lighting up a cigarette or pouring a whiskey.

Would you try another book from Diana Gabaldon and/or Davina Porter?
I would possibly try another book by Diana Gabaldon in the future, but this style wasn't for me. I read online to try to figure out if I needed to "hang in there" until a certain point to get hooked, but I found most people love it or don't care for it, and I fell into the latter category.
